Weekend Friday Favourites. 13.05.2022

Happy Friday the 13th!

The heat’s finally starting to say hello here! I think from tomorrow I’m switching over to my summer wardrobe. 24C is normally when I switch over to shorts. I’m hoping too I can find some new shorts. I have no idea where to start looking on online and I swear last year all of Inditex companies switch sizes. My regular size for shorts in Zara and Pull and Bear no longer fitted. I may put a little weight on, maybe it’s my body changing shape as I get older however I’ve been the same size for a few years. Even looking at the waist bands clothes look smaller. I asked a sales assistant in Zara last year if anyone else had noticed and she said yes. I’ve noticed too, a new smaller size of 32 and xxs which I think only under 20’s and teens can fit into. Maybe this is the reason why the clothes changed as girls are more into fashion younger. Or I’m just not burning as much fast as I used. Whichever reason it’s a major head f**k to get around. It’s bad enough already the ideals of women’s bodies.

Anyway, Weekend Friday Favourites, things that have made me smile or caught my eye this week.

Decathlon Snorkel Goggles

I mentioned in last week’s Weekend Friday Favourites that I may have purchased a new pair of snorkel goggles solely on the colour. I got a little envious last year looking on Instagram of colourful goggles in turquoise, pinks, yellows, purples. Decalthon only had black, multi blue or bright yellow in adults goggles. I had to replace my goggles last year when a wave wiped me out taking both my goggles and snorkel. The replacement pair I never got one with. So it wasn’t like a I needed an excuse to buy a new pair solely on it’s colour. They’re a medium, €9.99 and seem okay for narrow adult faces 🙋‍♀️ I’m hoping in a few weeks it’s warm enough to try them out. The tube/snorkel is the replacement from last year made from recycled plastic. I tried one that has a flexible chin bit, but it was too big and I couldn’t breathe as it dipped into the water causing the value to work overtime.

The Right Way to Wear Hair Grips

Wavy side down

Looking through a beauty tip book in Urban Outfitters this week (always check out their sale sections) I found out I’ve been wearing hair grips or bobby pins the wrong way round. I thought the the wavy edge went on the outside. It doesn’t, it goes scalp side down. When I air dry my hair I place 2 pins in-between my parting and temples to prevent cowlicks and to keep it out my face while it dries loose. Now I know why sometimes my hair never laid flat with the grips in. I was placing them the wrong way round! They don’t look as pretty wavy side down however my hair with the clips doesn’t flay out as the grips are sitting flush with the hair.

Lemon and Blueberry Birthday Cake!

Cat Tag

It’s back! Another cat tag.

Areas Of Desertification

At Zoo Barcelona this week I had a little more time to look around (I’m a member so can go as often as I like. They don’t make any money from me!) and read some info signs I usually pass by. I was aware that parts of the USA are becoming to become more dessert like but I didn’t know that Spain has a high degree of desertification or even the UK in East Anglia where I’m from. This means that fertile land is becoming a desert as the result of drought, deforestation or inappropriate agriculture. Climate change being the number one cause.

Internet Finds

Nicolás Olea: Pregnant women should avoid cosmetics that contain endocrine disrupter. El Pais in English. Forget the pregnant women part, everybody should avoid cosmetics that contain endocrine disrupters! This is what clean beauty and natural beauty is about. It’s a great read looking at why to avoid certain man made ingredients in skin care and help get through the green washing of oh this ingredient is okay when another site say’s not it’s not. The article also goes into plastic food and drink packaging and how they affect human bodies and hormones.

The ‘jockstrap’ that revolutionised women’s sports. BBC News. The OG of sports bras. Back in  the 1970’s women didn’t run much, those that did didn’t have the support they needed to keep everything from bouncing. Thanks to a jockstrap girls world over run, dance, play sports, climb or workout without a second thought of is there a sports bra (maybe larger chested girls are still searching for the one). It’s also crazy to think that only 38 years ago in 1984 women were allowed to run more than 3,000m in the Olympics. Previously experts thought that distance running would be harmful to women’s health and femininity. WTF! Imagine if the first sports bra hadn’t been invented, would women’s fitness be where it is now?
