Beauty Finds: Milk Makeup, Kush Waterproof Mascara Review

Welcome to Beauty Finds! This edition features Milk Makeup Kush Waterproof Mascara.

My go to mascara is Honest Beauty Extreme Length Mascara + Lash Primer. Clean ingredients, doesn’t irritate my eyes, equals out liquid eyeliner so my lashes don’t lost with the eyeliner. I have to separate them with an eyelash comb yet it gives my lashes, length, volume and definition I want. It however, isn’t waterproof for shit.

Rainproof yes, submerged in water swimming no. It isn’t even mist proof! Walking in the mist earlier this year my eyelashes felt wet and like something was heavy on them. A mirror check confirmed that the lashes were clumping together and the start of panda eyes!

After trying several waterproof mascaras and not liking how they don’t give the length and volume I like, or were so hard to remove last year, I remembered in my make up drawer from the year before I had a Milk Makeup mascara unused. It was stock up purchase only to find another mascara I liked, Honest Beauty Extreme Length Mascara. I decided instead to to experiment with it being the top coat of mascara to seal the mascara I liked underneath. Did it work? Read on for my Beauty Finds requirements or skip a paragraph straight for the review.

I have a few requirements when it comes to beauty products: cruelty free, natural, clean, vegan better. I do my best to avoid nasty ingredients such as SLSs, parabens, PEGs, silicones, etc. Petrochemicals are the sneakiest with so many derivatives and aliases. I also avoid palm oil and it’s derivatives as I prefer orangutans. Coconut oil marketed as the good oil I’m also cutting down on as it can be just a damaging crop as palm oil. If I do get products containing palm or coconut oil I try to get organic or sustainably sourced. With make up it’s a little harder so I go for cruelty free brands. I prefer products with less plastic and thankfully more brands are aware consumers don’t want unnecessary plastic (or governments are telling them less plastic). My skin type’s oily sensitive, acne prone and now wrinkles. I know nothing stops those lines, but if I can delay them then….

Milk Makeup Kush Waterproof Mascara

A mega-volume waterproof vegan mascara for super thick, full, badass lashes from root to tip. Infused with conditioning hemp-derived cannabis seed oil that gives buildable volume and softer, healthier-looking lashes.

This product is vegan, clean, cruelty-free, paraben-free, gluten-free, and talc-free.

It worked! Lashes still clump together after snorkelling. The water still gets in my eyes when I take the mask off. As I’m wearing mascara I can’t rub them as you would normally when water gets in your eyes. I have to close them for few seconds, blink away the water. While the lashes clump initially as they dry they separate again still retaining some length and definition without panda racoon eyes. When they’re dry I touch up before leaving the beach.

As a mascara on it’s own, it’s okay nothing wow. With several layers you can build some length and definition however it’s a natural looking lash mascara with lashes separated and a little length. No volume here! Lashes get lost with eyeliner so for me it doesn’t give ‘super thick, full, badass lashes from root to tip’. It gives me the ‘softer’ lashes. Its description is a contradiction of itself! I like a natural look but I like my lashes to be bold without being false. I wear it on its own running (I can’t run barefaced outdoors) and it holds up fine with sweat. It does worn on its own all day flake and can irritate my eyes occasionally making them feel dry. When applied as a top coat there is some flaking but I’m also in the water. I can deal with it by gently removing it and reapplying eye cream and mascara. No matter how much make up claims to be waterproof if you’re swimming in salt water in make up, the end of the day there’s no way you have that glow. No matter how much you reapply, rinse off the salt water, you’ll never leave the beach looking as you arrived. And no, I don’t take a huge make up case to the beach. Maybe years ago, but now just mascara, an old eyelash comb to help separate the lashes further, eye cream, a cushion compact, lip balm and of course sunscreen! I’m usually running errands after the beach so like to look presentable as much as I can for swimming before.

For once the before and after photos are what they say! Sadly with eyeliner the top half of my lashes get lost on my eyes.

It’s easy to remove with an oil cleanser. My favourite at the moment is Sioris Fresh Moment Cleansing Oil. Any residue still left I go back in with the oil cleanser!

The packaging is insane. I know the cartridge container inside isn’t very big yet the whole tube is chunky and heavy. After a year of use it weighs 60g! It’s difficulty to open if your hands have foundation or moisturiser on as there’s nothing to grip. It has light segregated lines running across both the tube and the lid which does nothing as the metal is so shiny and aren’t in opposite to how you’d open it! Vertical lines would be better. It’s the contradictive mascara! I sometimes have to use a cloth or my t-shirt to open it if I have anything on my hands. I feel sometimes the brush is too big for my eyes. I have small eyes and feel sometimes I can’t get into the roots as much as it’s so big. It’s quite expensive too, €25.90 however does last a long time containing 9.5ml of product. Using it as a top coat last summer and then running in the winter it’s still going strong.

The lines do nothing to help open it if have product on hands

I tried a few other mascaras but I liked that the ingredients in Kush Waterproof Mascara weren’t so crazy and that it doesn’t many contain petroleum derived ingredients from what I can make out. Only Acrylates Copolymer and Nylon 6. It’s packed too with oils to help nourish lashes such as cannabis sativa seed oil, castor seed oil, sunflower seed oil, poppy seed oil and carnauba wax. Ingredients:

Water (Aqua, Eau), Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax/Cire de Carnauba, Glyceryl Stearate, Ozokerite, Microcrystalline Wax/Cera Microcristallina/Cire Microcristalline, Stearic Acid, Acrylates Copolymer, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil/Huile Végétale Hydrogénée, Palmitic Acid, Stearyl Stearate, Butylene Glycol, Aminomethyl Propanol, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Galactoarabinan, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Nylon-6, Papaver Somniferum Seed Oil, Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil, Glycerin, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Lecithin, Dipteryx Odorata Seed Extract, Theobroma Grandiflorum Seed Butter, Tocopherol, Silica, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Aframomum Melegueta Seed Extract, Citric Acid, Helichrysum Italicum Extract, Iron Oxide (CI 77499). Would I recommend? If you want a light natural looking waterproof mascara and do not have sensitive eyes, yes. If you want volume lashes, no. Applied as a top coat to seal in your favourite mascara underneath to make it waterproof, yes. I’ll continue to do this summer unless I can find another waterproof mascara that’s like Honest Beauty Extreme Length Mascara.

Thank you for stopping by! Any waterproof mascara recommendations are welcome in the comments below!

  1. […] I’m a bad vegan eating honey so beeswax is okay. Sadly with liquid eyeliner it started to be like Milk Makeup Kush Waterproof Mascara just not opening up my eyes. You could hardly see the lashes above the eyeliner. I’m not talking […]
