Weekend Friday Favourites. 13.05.2022

Happy Friday the 13th!

The heat’s finally starting to say hello here! I think from tomorrow I’m switching over to my summer wardrobe. 24C is normally when I switch over to shorts. I’m hoping too I can find some new shorts. I have no idea where to start looking on online and I swear last year all of Inditex companies switch sizes. My regular size for shorts in Zara and Pull and Bear no longer fitted. I may put a little weight on, maybe it’s my body changing shape as I get older however I’ve been the same size for a few years. Even looking at the waist bands clothes look smaller. I asked a sales assistant in Zara last year if anyone else had noticed and she said yes. I’ve noticed too, a new smaller size of 32 and xxs which I think only under 20’s and teens can fit into. Maybe this is the reason why the clothes changed as girls are more into fashion younger. Or I’m just not burning as much fast as I used. Whichever reason it’s a major head f**k to get around. It’s bad enough already the ideals of women’s bodies.

Anyway, Weekend Friday Favourites, things that have made me smile or caught my eye this week.

Decathlon Snorkel Goggles

I mentioned in last week’s Weekend Friday Favourites that I may have purchased a new pair of snorkel goggles solely on the colour. I got a little envious last year looking on Instagram of colourful goggles in turquoise, pinks, yellows, purples. Decalthon only had black, multi blue or bright yellow in adults goggles. I had to replace my goggles last year when a wave wiped me out taking both my goggles and snorkel. The replacement pair I never got one with. So it wasn’t like a I needed an excuse to buy a new pair solely on it’s colour. They’re a medium, €9.99 and seem okay for narrow adult faces 🙋‍♀️ I’m hoping in a few weeks it’s warm enough to try them out. The tube/snorkel is the replacement from last year made from recycled plastic. I tried one that has a flexible chin bit, but it was too big and I couldn’t breathe as it dipped into the water causing the value to work overtime.

The Right Way to Wear Hair Grips

Wavy side down

Looking through a beauty tip book in Urban Outfitters this week (always check out their sale sections) I found out I’ve been wearing hair grips or bobby pins the wrong way round. I thought the the wavy edge went on the outside. It doesn’t, it goes scalp side down. When I air dry my hair I place 2 pins in-between my parting and temples to prevent cowlicks and to keep it out my face while it dries loose. Now I know why sometimes my hair never laid flat with the grips in. I was placing them the wrong way round! They don’t look as pretty wavy side down however my hair with the clips doesn’t flay out as the grips are sitting flush with the hair.

Lemon and Blueberry Birthday Cake!

Cat Tag

It’s back! Another cat tag.

Areas Of Desertification

At Zoo Barcelona this week I had a little more time to look around (I’m a member so can go as often as I like. They don’t make any money from me!) and read some info signs I usually pass by. I was aware that parts of the USA are becoming to become more dessert like but I didn’t know that Spain has a high degree of desertification or even the UK in East Anglia where I’m from. This means that fertile land is becoming a desert as the result of drought, deforestation or inappropriate agriculture. Climate change being the number one cause.

Goslings

Nearly almost all grown up in Parc de la Ciutadella!

Internet Finds

Nicolás Olea: Pregnant women should avoid cosmetics that contain endocrine disrupter. El Pais in English. Forget the pregnant women part, everybody should avoid cosmetics that contain endocrine disrupters! This is what clean beauty and natural beauty is about. It’s a great read looking at why to avoid certain man made ingredients in skin care and help get through the green washing of oh this ingredient is okay when another site say’s not it’s not. The article also goes into plastic food and drink packaging and how they affect human bodies and hormones.

The ‘jockstrap’ that revolutionised women’s sports. BBC News. The OG of sports bras. Back in  the 1970’s women didn’t run much, those that did didn’t have the support they needed to keep everything from bouncing. Thanks to a jockstrap girls world over run, dance, play sports, climb or workout without a second thought of is there a sports bra (maybe larger chested girls are still searching for the one). It’s also crazy to think that only 38 years ago in 1984 women were allowed to run more than 3,000m in the Olympics. Previously experts thought that distance running would be harmful to women’s health and femininity. WTF! Imagine if the first sports bra hadn’t been invented, would women’s fitness be where it is now?

Weekend Friday Favourites

Happy Friday! Spring’s finally here!

Winter returned earlier this week which was weird as the light didn’t match the temperature. Yesterday it was around 21C when Monday it was around 10C. I hoping I can finally put away my winter coat for a few seasons. It’s nice to be in lighter weight colours and layers.

Little Dinosaur

Last week was a slow week for favourites hence no Weekend Friday Favourites. This week I have enough to share things that have made me smile or caught my eye recently!

More Goslings!

This week I saw 2 more geese families! A family of 3 goslings and a family of 2 goslings! That makes a total of 7 baby geese in the park as I’ve seen another family recently with 1 chick. Sadly the family of 5 chicks lost 4. I swear nearly everyone that sees them cries out in awe!

Jasmine

Almost over night some of the many Jasmine bushes in the parks and along the beaches flowered! Jasmine is one of my favourite flower scents along with lilac. I smelt them before I saw them as the flowers seem smaller this this year. The scent is heavenly!

Karina More Facial Cupping Challenge

I recently reviewed Karina More’s Face Building Marathon that I’ve been doing for over a year and shared her newly released book to accompany the course. In May she’s releasing her 2nd course on facial cupping. For now the course is whatever price you wish to pay. From May onwards it’ll be a fixed price to be confirmed. Facial cupping can help amongst many things, reduce edema and body fat, detox, improve blood circulation, revive capillaries and recover collagen fibres. To be honest she had me at boosting collagen so I’m all signed up and have my cups ready.

Weekend Friday Favourites

I hope you’re having a great weekend! I can’t believe that we’re half way through November! While I’m in a puffer jacket and only just started layering in the evenings a jumper underneath out, the cold hasn’t started here yet. In fact it’s still a little warmer than usual. November’s usually around 16C in BCN with this year midday temps 19-20C. I’m still running in shorts!

Mid autumn fall light

Anyway this week’s Weekend Friday Favourites, things that have made me smile or caught my eye recently.

Light

One thing I do like and perhaps the only thing I like about the chiller shorter days is the light. If you’re wrapped up warm the light’s magical.

Halloween Eve Blue Hunter Full Moon Rise

Birds Song

Catalunya from 06.00 Friday to 06.00 Monday has placed municipal weekend confinements to slow the pace of Covid-19. We’re only allowed to leave said towns and villages for work, medical, essential shopping if we can’t get in it in the said town or village, exceptional travel reasons. However we can walk, run, cycle across municipals. Stores are still open. It’s actually in effect from Thursdays 22.00 as Spain is under a nation wide curfew from 23.00-06.00 with regions able to change it an hour each side. It’s a pain at the weekends more so as the Zoo reopened this weekend and I can’t go. I can cycle around it, not visit. Monday I can! Anyway a bonus is before traffic picks up Sunday mornings you can hear birds singing.

Hanhan Official Scrunchies

A new store opened in the centre selling Miin Cosmetics. A new Miin store I didn’t know about?! It’s in fact Miin’s sister opening her own shop, Hanhan Official selling contemporary Asian costume jewellery and accessories as well a selection of Miin Cosmetics. The large jar of scrunchies at check out caught my eye. I needed to replace mine and was after ones that wouldn’t snag my hair. The material has to be smooth enough to do so without getting tangled up and pulling out hair. These looked perfect and they were. So much so I went back and got 2 more before they sold out!

Weekend Friday Favourites

I hope you’re having a great weekend!

Covid-19 cases have risen in Catalunya and Barcelona with the regional government closing gyms, amusement parks, clubs, cinemas, leaving open bars and restaurants at 50% capacity, libraries and museums for 2 weeks to stem the spike. My gym and climbing gym rebelled as long as they could arguing that health and fitness are vital essentials that need to remain open. Even the city council was on their side. Sadly they lost and most gyms are now closed until further notice. The zoo held out for as long as possible too, closing on Monday and reopening this Saturday after petitioning to remain open. They say it’s for 15 days, but I think it’ll be longer. Thankfully it’s not a full lockdown, we’re allowed out and shops are open. The only change face masks are mandatory in all public spaces even when we can social distance.

Anyway, this week’s Weekend Friday Favourites. Things that have made me smile or caught my eye this week.

Dietes Bicolor

Dietes Bicolor Lyon Arboretum, Oahu

Scrolling back through photos to edit for Golden Gate Bridge a flower I took in Lyon Arboretum, Oahu Hawaii stood out. It was the same flower I took at the zoo a few days ealier! After a little research it’s a Dietes Bicolor, a tropical iris native to South Africa!

Dietes Bicolor Barcelona Zoo

Aloha Collection

On holiday earlier this year in Oahu there’s a chain of shops Sandpeople which sell local art, craft and jewellery that I kept popping into. I kept being drawn to Aloha Collection, a Hawaiian and California brand that specialises in splash proof travel pouches, bags and hip/bum bags. I thought one would be be perfect for the summer stashing a wet bikini. Everything is waterproof bar the zipper and was created with stashing wet swimsuits, easy clean toiletry and make up pouches in mind when travelling that can be multipurpose and protect other items from spillages. The black with yellow hibiscus wasn’t the one I wanted, however I thought being dark coloured would be less likely to get ruined with suncream and from being thrown in a rucksack with everything else. When we got back I couldn’t stop thinking about the mini hibiscus With Love From Paradise X Aloha pouch for a purse and well, first order you get 20% off. They have designs for everyone and I’ve had to blinker myself from the new designs out (especially the new small Lei Lei Orchid prints. Like the blue and green below but in pink and purple and the mini in pink which has sold out 😦 ). None the less, if you want a pretty splash proof lightweight pouch to stashing wet bikinis, or a pouch you can wipe down easily I can’t recommend enough Aloha Collection. They are on the pricey side, but I can see them lasting a long time. The only con I have is print on the mini pouch is beginning to fade. I guess it adds to its character.

Weekend Friday Favourites

I hope you’re having a great weekend!

Just as Spain is getting used to the ‘new normal’, the Catalan regional government announced this past Friday that the Barcelona metropolitan area is going into a 15 day voluntary lockdown due to spike in covid-19 infections. Most gyms have been ordered to close although the city council is appealing to keep them open and most are keeping open until further notice. Cinemas, amusement parks, nightclubs are closed. Bars and restaurants have gone to back to 50% capacity. For now the beaches are open and we’re allowed to exercise outside. Face masks are now mandatory outside at all times even if we can social distance. Exceptions under 6’s, breathing difficulties and for exercise. Police can set stop motorists and advise them to return home but can’t fine.

Anyways, a short and sweet Weekend Friday Favourites this week. The week’s gone a in blur leaving me scratching my head where it went.

Jade Eye Mask

An Instagram rabbit hole a few months ago lead me to an esthetician’s page where in one of her clients facials she used a jade eye mask. I was thinking it could help when I have migraines. When I get one usually the only thing that will provide pressure release is a dark room with a t-shirt folded lengthways and placed over my eyes like an eye mask. It gives enough weight to kinda press out the pressure. The head spider massager also helps.
