Beauty Finds: Briogeo Be Kind Be Gentle™ Matcha + Apple Replenishing Superfood Shampoo And Briogeo Be Kind Be Gentle™ Matcha + Apple Replenishing Superfood Conditioner Review

Welcome to Beauty Finds! This edition features Briogeo Be Kind Be Gentle™ Matcha + Apple Replenishing Superfood Shampoo and Briogeo Be Kind Be Gentle™ Matcha + Apple Replenishing Superfood Conditioner.

What it Does: The green-juice inspired shampoo is packed with matcha and apple to cleanse and help nourish hair without stripping it of moisture. The conditioner is an infusion of kale and apple to nourish and hydrate the scalp and hair. By harnessing the power of fruit and vegetable fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals, this regimen will support the vibrancy of hair and is the perfect compliment to your wellness routine.

I first discovered Briogeo back in I think 2019. An Apple News* Buzzfeed article on must have beauty items lead me to Glow Recipe which lead me to Briogeo on Cult Beauty. Sometimes unexpected leads, lead onto good things. Something said just try them. Based on founder Nancy Twines Mum’s kitchen recipes, cruelty free, vegan and 97% naturally derived ingredients, of course I was going to try them. I’d been looking for a good silicone free shampoo and conditioner for a long time. My hair at the time wasn’t doing too good. Greasy everyday, yet dry and no amount of conditioner could make it happy, shiny and soft.

I can’t remember when, maybe be in lockdown I started washing my hair every other day rather than every day. My hair since has been happier that the good oils it produces aren’t be washed out everyday. I’ve tried different shampoos and conditioners both liquid and solid since and I keep coming back to Briogeo Be Kind Be Gentle™ Matcha + Apple Replenishing Superfood Shampoo. My hair is fine, slight wavy, long, shows greasy and any damage easily. Read on for my Beauty Finds requirements or skip a paragraph for the review.

I have a few requirements when it comes to beauty products: cruelty free, natural, clean, vegan better. I do my best to avoid nasty ingredients such as SLSs, parabens, PEGs, silicones, etc. Petrochemicals are the sneakiest with so many derivatives and aliases. I also avoid palm oil and it’s derivatives as I prefer orangutans. Coconut oil marketed as the good oil I’m also cutting down on as it can be just a damaging crop as palm oil. If I do get products containing palm or coconut oil I try to get organic or sustainably sourced. With make up it’s a little harder so I go for cruelty free brands. I prefer products with less plastic and thankfully more brands are aware consumers don’t want unnecessary plastic (or governments are telling them less plastic). My skin type’s oily sensitive, acne prone and now wrinkles. I know nothing stops those lines, but if I can delay them then….

* Coconut, vegetable, or plant derived

Briogeo Be Kind Be Gentle™ Matcha + Apple Replenishing Superfood Shampoo is a nutrient-rich green juice-inspired shampoo for dull and parched hair the harnesses the power of fruits and vegetables to support healthy looking hair and scalp.

Usage: Apply wet hair and vigorously massage for 30 seconds to build lather then rinse. For best results, pair with Briogeo Superfoods™ Matcha + Apple Replenishing Conditioner. Due to the plant-based ingredients, the product colour may shift over time – this will not affect performance.

While the ingredient list is long, neither contain any nasty ingredients such as silicones, parabens, sulfates, phthalates, DEA or artificial dyes. This is a huge brownie point already! The massage for 30 seconds is so the ingredients not only clean the hair, the scalp too and work the ingredients into the scalp for healthier looking hair as it grows from the root. The scent is shampoo apple-ly. That’s the only way to describe it. It’s not too strong and does dissipate after a while or I have got used to it.

I find it cleans my hair well, leaves it feeling clean even after 2 day of workouts, running, however I can tell when it’s wet my hair needs a conditioner. It is expensive at €29.90 for 369ml from Sephora España (I’m so happy they now stock it so I no longer have to order online from outside Spain) however it lasts a long time. I wash my hair every other day and it lasts about 3 months. A little goes long way and it foams up well so you can feel where it is to work into the scalp. It rinses out well and does sting if gets in the eyes. If I’ve hair oiled my hair, I need 2 shampoos washes to feel like it’s clean. It’s easy to squeeze out the bottle, doesn’t fall over towards the end when it’s upside down to get out the last few weeks worth. It’s vegan, cruelty free and on the clean ingredient lists.

If anything it’s kind to fine hair as it does’t weigh it down and leaves my scalp and hair feeling clean. I haven’t had any reactions to it either as my skin can also be sensitive.

I think I’ve repurchased about 4 times so it’s one I recommend for greasy yet dull looking hair. It’s always one I return to after trying out other shampoos. It’s great basic with a little scalp skin care for every other day washing shampoo. In fact I’m using a bottle right now! The only con is that the security seal is so hard to remove.

* Coconut, vegetable, or plant derived

Be Kind Be Gentle™ Matcha + Apple Replenishing Superfood Conditioner is a green juice-inspired, smoothie-textured conditioner for dull and parched hair that harnesses the nutrients of fruits and vegetables to support healthy looking hair and scalp.

Usage: After shampooing, apply and massage into the hair from root to tip. Leave in for up to 2 minutes before rinsing.

If I’m going to try the shampoo, I’m going to try the matching conditioner. They’re meant to work together, right? It’s the same price as the shampoo, €29.90 for 369ml making it an expensive matching set.

Again the ingredient list is a happy conditioner list. No nasty ingredients and very similar to the shampoo version if not a little longer. The scent is almost the same. Leaving it in for 2 minutes ensures the hair shafts get moisture locked in and again massaging into the roots supports a healthy scalp. I usually left it in while I shaved my legs and finish soaping up. It was fairy easy to wash out however not as easily as the matching shampoo. In terms of being lightweight conditioner it’s not. It’s quite a heavy conditioner.

I found if I use too much it did the opposite of replenishing my hair. The ends got a little dry and dull, the roots either heavy as I put too much in. The massaging into the roots has to be done very gently and with little product. Compared to the shampoo with the same bottle design it isn’t as easy to get out of the bottle. It got stuck like a thick smoothies and wouldn’t budge. When it did, it didn’t squeeze out easily either. You have to shake the bottle a lot to work the product to the lid. It doesn’t tangle hair too badly (I comb my hair with a wide tooth comb before washing to ease the amount of tangles post wash), but still a few tangles to work with. I leave my hair to air dry which might play a role it how it conditions and replenishes but I find it didn’t work for my hair. There was a some shine, but it still looked a little lifeless and dry. Again the security seal was hard to remove.

I have repurchased a few times but it’s not a repeat purchase. I only repurchased as finding a clean ingredient conditioner that smells nice is hard. Oh and add in FOMO too if I didn’t use them together. This year I’ve been trying different shampoos and conditioners mixing and matching brands. Briogeo Superfoods™ Matcha + Apple Replenishing Shampoo is now my go to shampoo and I’ve found a better conditioner that works with it. Sometimes matching sets aren’t for everyone.

Would I recommend? The shampoo yes, if you want a good frequent shampoo that cleans, leaves hair feeling clean without stripping to of its oils, looks after the scalp, that’s vegan and clean ingredients more on the natural side. The conditioner, skip especially if you have fine hair. There are better ones out there.

*I have since deleted Apple News from both my phone and iPad and wish I had done it sooner. So much time wasted on it. What really made me delete it was the constant covid reports during the lockdown scaring so many people. Since I’m no longer distracted my it, I’m so much happier. Delete apps, block apps, turn off notifications. Do more things that make you forget to check your phone!

Thank you for stopping by!
