natjtan Welcome to another edition of Beauty Finds. This edition features Honest Beauty Nourish Shampoo + Body Wash and Nourish Conditioner. Formally know as Honest Beauty Gently Nourishing Shampoo + Body Wash and Gently Nourishing Conditioner hence the older design bottles!
To be honest (no pun intended. Or maybe) it’s been a few months since I’ve used these. Which kinda says it all. I was using Honest Beauty Sensitive Shampoo + Wash and Sensitive Conditioner (formally Purely Sensitive. Review here) and was curious to try the Nourishing versions if I purchased it through Niche Beauty as opposed to Douglas in Spain. This is due to Douglas charging at the time of purchase around €19.90 while Niche Beauty charges €8 for the same size bottle. Douglas has now reduced the price for the Nourishing duo €8 in line with Niche Beauty. Both vendors sell the European labels hence the writing in German and English. I wanted to try out Honest shampoos and conditioners as I like the brand, they won’t break the bank to try, good value for money at 295ml for €8 (depending on the vendor), they’re clean ingredients and I wasn’t 100% happy with Sensitive duo.

I have a few requirements when it comes to beauty products: cruelty free, natural, clean, vegan better. I do my best to avoid nasty ingredients such as SLSs, parabens, PEGs, silicones, etc. Petrochemicals are the sneakiest with so many derivatives and aliases. I also avoid palm oil and it’s derivatives as I prefer orangutans. Coconut oil marketed as the good oil, I’m also cutting down on as it can be just a damaging crop as palm oil. If I do get products containing palm or coconut oil I try to get organic or sustainably sourced. With make up it’s a little harder so I go for cruelty free brands. I prefer products with less plastic and thankfully more brands are aware consumers don’t want unnecessary plastic (or governments are telling them less plastic). My skin type’s oily sensitive, acne prone and now wrinkles. I know nothing stops those lines, but if I can delay them then….
My hair is fine, oily at the roots, dry at the ends. It’s in way better condition now I wash it every other day and take time to hair oil. It’s getting some white hairs I’m fighting with fo-ti tablets, amla tablets, hair oil and powder masks and Mayraki Colour Restoring Treatment (call me vain! Who actually likes grey hair?!) to naturally prevent the white hairs. I’m not ready to dye it or deal with the up keep dying it. This means those whites which are now growing back or rather the lucky ones that are, are dark dark ginger instead of strawberry blonde have a similar texture to what white hair would naturally. As long as it’s not white I’m okay with that. I pluck any white hair growing and take extra care when applying the oils and serums in that patch. Yes I’m vain.
Honest Beauty Shampoo + Body Wash Nourish

First up the scent. I’m not sure what sweet almond smells like, I presuming marzipan. If it is marzipan this smells nothing like marzipan. There’s no way this is an almond scent. I don’t even know how to describe the scent. It’s unusual and takes some getting used to. Thankfully it doesn’t linger heavily on the hair or maybe I got used to it. Both the shampoo and conditioner smell the same.

This is okay. It’s not anything wonderful. It cleaned my hair okay. I feel it’s more of basic shampoo with the conditioner doing the work. I could feel while applying it the roots it’s not a moisturising shampoo. Several times I had to wash my hair twice for it to feel clean. More so if I had hair oils in. For this reason I got through it a lot quicker than the conditioner.

This I did like. It’s not anti tangling as my hair was in knots after washing even combing it before washing. It did leave my hair a little shiny, smooth and looking hydrated on the first day of washing. The next day my hair did begin to look a little wiry. 2nd day I generally wear a baseball cap or have my hair up so this doesn’t matter so much. Even with daily dips in the sea, rinsing my hair later and keeping to washing it every other day, it looked after my hair with the salt water. It helped not to dry it out. It worked well with Briogeo Be Kind Be Gentle Matcha and Apple Replenishing Superfood Shampoo over the summer (review here). It took a while to find the right amount as too much can weigh down fine hair.

The bottle design is the same as the sensitive duo. This meant I had the same issues with the bottle pump. If I’m correct, the sensitive shampoo and conditioner were the first shampoo and conditioner developed by Honest with babies in mind. The pump lid is big so it’s quick and easy to pump without it falling over while washing babies. However I found the pump was too close the bottle product is wasted as you pump dripping down in between my hand and the pump and I have small hands! If travelling it was better to close the pump on your last hair wash before travelling as you have to press the pump to lock it. Every pump releases product! Lastly as the pump lid is heavier than the bottle as the product gets lower it can fall over pumping as there’s less counterweight product. In the promo video the bottle is held on one hand and pumped into the other. I’m not a human mum, but I presume this only works if the kid isn’t wiggling bathing. Otherwise is one hand to hold the baby, the other to pump the shampoo.
Would I recommend? The conditioner yes for fine hair. It takes a while to find the right about not to weigh it down. It works great with other shampoos. The shampoo I’d skip if you have fine hair.
