Beauty Finds: Honest Beauty Extreme Length Mascara + Lash Primer Review

Welcome to Beauty Finds! This edition features Honest Beauty Extreme Length Mascara + Lash Primer

Buying beauty products online is always a gamble. I’m old school when it comes to initially trying products or looking at them for the first time. I like to physically check them out. Are they worth the hype, do I like how it feels, smells? Once I know the product and it’s a repeat buy I don’t mind buying online. Purchasing products online for the first time is always touch and go. Spending money online, money has different value to buying in stores. Almost as if it has lesser value. €30 online is cheaper than €30 in store. Or at least that’s how my mind works. Honest Beauty in Europe is exclusively online so the gamble’s there. Did I waste money or it’s all good, I like it!

Honest Beauty Extreme Length Mascara + Lash Primer is thankfully it the latter category. While I like the Honest company and like many of their Honest Beauty products, I haven’t liked all of them. About 90% I do. Their most recent mascara, Extreme Volume Mascara + Bold Lash Primer did the exact opposite of what it says it’s meant to do. I had barely visible lashes! The wand’s bigger than my eye! Read on for my Beauty Finds requirements or skip a paragraph for the review.

I have a few requirements when it comes to beauty products: cruelty free, natural, clean, vegan better. I do my best to avoid nasty ingredients such as SLSs, parabens, PEGs, silicones, etc. Petrochemicals are the sneakiest with so many derivatives and aliases. I also avoid palm oil and it’s derivatives as I prefer orangutans. Coconut oil marketed as the good oil I’m also cutting down on as it can be just a damaging crop as palm oil. If I do get products containing palm or coconut oil I try to get organic or sustainably sourced. With make up it’s a little harder so I go for cruelty free brands. I prefer products with less plastic and thankfully more brands are aware consumers don’t want unnecessary plastic (or governments are telling them less plastic). My skin type’s oily sensitive, acne prone and now wrinkles. I know nothing stops those lines, but if I can delay them then….

Honest Beauty Extreme Length Mascara + Lash Primer

This award-winning, bestselling double-ended primer + mascara is a cult classic for a reason. Infused with Jojoba Esters, our smooth black mascara delivers extreme length and sky high lift. The secret to the magic – the primer. It creates an even base that enhances the mascara’s performance, while boosting length and staying power. That’s why it’s the #1 clean mascara on Amazon.

Made with: Jojoba Esters

Made without: Parabens, Paraffins, Synthetic Fragrances, Silicones, Mineral Oil

This had been my go to mascara for about 2-3 years. I’ve rarely strayed from it apart from wanting to find a good waterproof mascara. Clean ingredients, long lasting and gives me long lashes, why would I look for another mascara?

Starting with the primer which is white on application prepping the lashes almost extending them for the mascara to come. You leave in on for about 20-30 seconds before applying the Extreme Length Mascara. I’ll admit I haven’t used the mascara on its own, only with the primer. It might seem like an unnecessary step, but I don’t want to waste product so just use it. The primer wand does look a bit cheap but it works. The mascara wand isn’t a traditional big spooly. It looks flimsy however the design ensures it gets in between the lashes lengthening them. After application I comb through with Tweezerman Folding iLashcomb (thank me later. Pricey and worth every cent. You can get discount ones at Zwilling in outlet villages. I don’t know where I’d be without it. Lasts a few years, easy to clean with a toothbrush. Careful with hot water as the metal teeth can rust and fall out. And with careful use you won’t poke your eye out) to separate, un-clump and define my lashes. Clumped lashes aren’t for me. I do this with any mascara regardless if they lengthen and separate. Small eyes need all the help they can get.

The mascara itself for some it might look plastic lashes towards the end of the tube but I like it! It does what it says, gives lashes extreme length with volume! It’s fairly natural looking depending on how you apply it however you can get look I’m wearing mascara drama with several coats. I wouldn’t say I have short lashes, I have pale hidden longish lashes that come out with this. Thanks to the wand which initially I wasn’t sure about it doesn’t clump. If it does it’s easily sorted with the wand itself with a bit of wiggling as you can get good lash separation with it. You can get close to the lash line and build length and volume easily while also separating lashes. After the first coat, curl my lashes finish my base (I’m an eyes first eye) before the second coat which usually is enough before using an eyelash comb to further separate. Having small eyes I don’t want lashes stuck together making them smaller.

The black is a good all around suits everyone black. Not to dark black, not brown black. Should I show photos of it on. Yes. Have I? No!

It gets extra points for not stinging my eyes and that I haven’t reacted to it, making it great for sensitive skin and eyes. That’s one reason why I like Honest Beauty. In addition to being mid range affordable skincare (nothing is over €35 even facial oils) and clean ingredients, the ingredients are suitable for sensitive skin. Lasting power, it’s not 24 hour (tested many times falling asleep with makeup on), it does last all day.

Any cons as it sounds too good to be true!

Yes. It’s not waterproof! A while back walking on fog I noticed my eyelashes feeling wet and heavy. Mirror check later, the mascara was beginning to run! Clumping my lashes together, melting away! It’s not that good swimming for this reason either. As long as you don’t touch them they kinda separate away later but it’s not a good look. In the summer my second coat of mascara is a waterproof: Milk Makeup Kush Waterproof Mascara. They work well together. Honest Beauty Extreme Length Mascara + Lash Primer keeping lash volume and length, Milk Makeup Kush Waterproof Mascara sealing it in. Also if you talk and laugh a lot maybe there is some lower outer eyelid smudge although TBH I don’t know if this is from my eyeliner.

As both the primer and mascara contain beeswax it’s not vegan. Being a bad vegan I eat honey so I’m okayish with this. Clean ingredient mascaras that work are hard to find. I can’t find where they source their honey from. Honest as a brand is cruelty free and PETA approved.

The tube’s plastic. I have tried only one other clean ingredient mascara I could find in a glass tube and well, it was bad. If Honest could make the tube sugar plastic it would be great. That said I like that it’s two in one tube without compromising on ml’s.

New and older tubes

While it’s on the pricer mid range mascara, €20 for 6ml mascara, 2ml primer, it lasts about 3 months or more. The effect towards the end of the tube you can see it’s getting a little plastic looking and not as fresh with some flaking, it does has a long time. I did notice with the new outer packaging the tube as also changed shape from the older style. A little more fatter. Thankfully they didn’t change the formula much. The primer seems a little more thicker with mascara a little more liquid. The result’s the same.

Would I recommned? Absolutely, if you want a clean ingredient, cruelty free mascara that gives length, volume and separates lashes that lasts! If you want it waterproof, top it with a good waterproof mascara.
