Flamingos, Calpe

I can’t believe I haven’t shared before seeing wild flamingos from a few years ago! Real life flamingos not zoo flamingos.

This flock lives on an old Roman salt mine now a lagoon, Las Salines de Calpe a Nature Park and Reserve in Calpe, Alicante, Spain. I was surprised that weren’t as pink as I’d thought they be and by how much larger and taller they were than the ones at Barcelona Zoo. Their necks appear longer than the American and Chilean flamingos at the zoo. Sometimes I feel sad for the ones at the zoo. Their flight feathers are removed and when they try to get air I feel bad for them. It’s always different to see them free. I have spilt views on zoos here.

Please excuse the quality of the photos. They were taken a few years ago before I understood more depth of field, light etc.

Only handful were pink. Maybe they knew the best brine shrimp, algae and larvae spots!

Early Spring

While many of us are watching spring from our windows this year and celebrated the official first day of spring inside, nature doesn’t do dates. She does arrivals. Spring started saying hello at the end of February back when we were allowed out in freedom. While summer holds a place in my heart as my favourite season, spring is very close second by a fraction. Watching everything wake up after winter gives a warm feeling of longer warmer days ahead.

The sun come the end of winter has a warmth to it. The light’s bright, trees start getting dressed, people and animals start to hang out more in the sunshine thanks to the longer days. Finding a sunny sheltered spot out of the wind is heaven! Anyways, early spring photos at the zoo and running errands. Apologies if there’s too many or if you’ve seen here them before.

Cherry blossom’s always spring. This is all the blossom I saw this yearThe same for Jasmine one of my favourite flowers and scents. All the jasmine I saw this year Plane trees starting to get dressed while shedding seed pods. Continue reading “Early Spring”

February 2020 Catch Up

It’s nearly Spring already and the end of March! One of the longest months aside from April. How did that happen?!

February this year was a good month purely for the reason I was still on my holiday vacay!

Welcome to the jungle. Manoa Falls, Oahu Hawaii

The first few days in February were spent in Oahu, Hawaii before flying back to California to explore the Big Sur and see Bill Burr in some random outback country town part of California. Driving to the venue we were rubbing our eyes if what we was seeing was real. We drove through a mini Danish town right down the black timber architecture lit up with fairy Continue reading “February 2020 Catch Up”

Project Light: September and October

Photography’s about taking an image of light. That’s all photography is, capture of light. Project Light a series of light changing through the seasons captured with nature, landscapes, animals and the city.

My Mum always says you can take the girl out the country but you can’t take the country out the girl. This is partly true. I love living on the outskirts of the city albeit within another town on the boundary, no countryside insight, only mountains in the distance. I have all the city’s amenities at my fingertips. I’m not sure I could go back to living in a small town or the countryside. I like the ease of a city. I have Continue reading “Project Light: September and October”

Weekend Friday Favourites

After another long hiatus Weekend Friday Favourites is back! Back to stay! I hope you’re having a great weekend and thank you for stopping by to check out what’s been making me smile recently or caught my eye!

Battersea Dogs And Cats Home 2019 October Pin Up

I smiled so much with a tear in my eye when October came around on Battersea Dogs And Cats Home 2019 promotion for donations calendar. I donated however I’d prefer charities keep the money they spend on freebies for the animals. I’m convinced this is one of AJ’s relatives. AJ was a London boy and this little one’s marking’s are almost identical. The same tones, positions of markings, that cute serious look. Missing Continue reading “Weekend Friday Favourites”
