This year’s Earth Day theme is Invest in Our Planet and I might get a little soap boxy. Just warning ya.
Earth Day has been celebrated globally since 1970 and is held on the 22nd April each year to promote awareness and demonstrate support for environmental protection. To be honest I think this message has been lost with the rise of influencers posing in fields of flowers, backdrops of mountains, beaches saying oh how we should protect this earth with using my discount code for xyz sponsor. Earth Day isn’t about the influencer, the main focus of those photo. It’s about the fields of flowers being the focus, tall majestic mountain ranges, the blue oceans and seas. They’re the focus. They’re the ones paying the price for human consumerism. I’m guilty of it, the buying into items! I’m not perfect. However every 22nd of April I roll my eyes at the wanna be influencers, made it influencers, brands with never gave a crap to start with suddenly caring about the environment. Honestly I check out of it. The message has been lost.
So many of us can’t fight corporations, the big money, however we can with the choices we make with our money. I know it’s not easy. Goods still need to be transported and that requires lorries, trucks, shipping both by air and sea. That I don’t think will change. The type of fuel for them maybe. Sometimes I don’t think this is taken into account purchasing items. Sometimes look local before buying online. The shipping will have been less in terms of destination. Items still need to be shipped and people needs jobs. I always think if I really need the item before ordering online. Could I get it locally, do I really needed it, what’s my mood today? Is it a quick fix to feel good? I think this way regardless of it’s from a sustainable brand or not. A sustainable brand still wants you to buy its item, they still need to market it attractively, it still needs to be shipped, it’s still part of consumerism. Just because it’s sustainable, doesn’t mean you need it.
I think you get the idea of Invest In Our Planet with money. Do research on brands that line with your ethics. I love beauty products. They are often my most used plastic consummation. I’m always trying to reduct the amount of plastic I use which I share here on natjtan with Recycle Less finds. Food and beauty items being the top plastic consumption.
I hope you’re having a great weekend! I won’t lie, being on lockdown cooped coming up for the 6th week I’m having my loopy moments, my motivated moments and perhaps more demotivated moments.
I think the Spanish government will call the State of Alarm next week for another two weeks. The government can only call it every two weeks. I’m just hoping they relax some restrictions and we’re allowed outside even if it’s for exercise. This however might be different for each region based on regional covid-19 infection levels or health care facilities. If another 2 weeks is added, that’s 2 months under near total lockdown. I understand the whys, so don’t come for me! As Catalunya is one of the worst hit regions after Madrid, it might be one of the last regions to have restrictions lifted. One thing all regions can agree on is kids that have been cooped up for nearly 6 weeks need to get outdoors to play. The next State of Alarm may allow for this. Big kids allowed out too would be amazing too.
As for Weekend Friday Favourites, it’s short one. This week’s been a struggle motivationally and mentally. My birthday’s next month, a big one and with that comes lots of whys, what ifs, what no’s, what I’ve done etc. I lost a few days in a little head spin. But hey, everybody gets old! Youth’s appreciated as it’s got fat cheeks, no wrinkles, elastic skin! Nature really likes to hit you hard with age. Just when you’ve getting used to things she takes them away! Okay enough reflection. If you’re still here, Weekend Friday Favouites, things that have made me smile this week or caught my eye.
Ducks, kestrels, wagtails, seagulls, swifts, parakeets, magpies and pigeon seen flying. All flying higher or lower than usual.
I hope you’re having a great weekend! Here’s been quiet which is fine with me. I get to hang out with this little guy. Who sleeps most of the time and is currently sleeping on my lap helping me edit.
I can’t believe that Tone It Up’s Summer Series starts in a week. Or that they’re celebrating 10 years. Makes you think what you’ve done while they’ve been conquering the fitness world. Anyway, this weeks Weekend Friday Favourites. Things that have made me smile or caught my eye recently. As usual, animals included. Continue reading “Weekend Friday Favourites”→
I hope you had an amazing time celebrating the New Year whether you were sleeping, partying or like me celebrating New Year’s Day soaking up the sun at the beach!
Like Christmas, ringing in the New Year was low key. Thanks to TVE1 en directo on my phone, the cats and I rang in the New Year watching the ball drop in Puerta de Sol Madrid snugged up warm. I just just managed to eat all 12 grapes in before the 12 campanadas finished. Just. Does having 1 or 2 left mid chew as you try to avoid choking on grape juice count?
After a long hiatus Weekend Friday Favourites is back!
How’s your weekend going? I’ve had some many Weekend Friday Favourites planned over the past 2 months. Planned in my head that never materialised, photos taken never shown. Maybe it’s been lack of motivation or time scheduling with the beach calling. I think it’s more my time management abilities and prioritising the beach. Summer’s only here a little while. Anyways this week’s Weekend Friday Favourites, things that caught my eye or made me smile recently.Continue reading “Weekend Friday Favourites”→
