February 2022. The Long Short Month. The Second Half

Animal Kingdom, Inspiration, Lifestyle, Nature, Photography, Travel

The second half of February I used my mobile camera more than my camera. I’m not sure why. Maybe my camera was buried in my bag, maybe I didn’t want to seem like tourist.

Sunrise seagull commute

Maybe I didn’t think the shot was worth my camera. I do that a lot only to later regret why I didn’t take it with my camera. My phone is just easier. Sometimes I can’t be bothered to get out my camera. Behind every photo however is a story. Be it basic as a reminder to go somewhere, a reference for later out shopping, evidence, the light, the scenery you wanted to capture forever. Even though most of the second half of February’s photos are from my mobile which in my eyes I can tell straight away they’re not as good, they have tales to tell.

I have a thing for birds as they make me laugh and are free to do, come and go as they please

There are parts of Barcelona even now and then I re explore only to be reminded why I don’t go there very often. Maremàgnum Centro Comercial is one of them. A mall in Port Vell, that’s always had a weird vibe to it. Sadly this time when I went about 1/3 of the shops had closed down. I have always though liked walking around wharf side. One of my favourite views of Barcelona is the row of buildings along Passeig de Colom looking from the port.

Some of the buildings along Passeig de Colom. The one with the 2 towers is the most fanciest post office in all the lands! Correos Via Laietana. The inside has frescos and a huge glass dome roof!

Every year the boating lake in Parc de la Ciutadella gets drained for maintenance. Last year someone released goldfish in the lake. You could see them flashing orange feeding the ducks. The seagulls as the boating lake drained, were going crazy fighting mid air for fish. I think more goldfish died out of shock being dropped multiple times than being eaten. Some the gulls, black headed gulls I think were amazing divers. They jumped a little in the air to dive head first into the water only for the larger gulls to steal the fish.

Welcome back to another Weekend Friday Favourites of things that have made me smile or caught my eye this week!

I hope your week’s going okay. Spring’s saying hello both in its sunny days, slightly warmer temps and its rainy grey day as winter’s whispers it’s see ya laters. I’m just finally used to writing 2022 or 22 and not 2021/21. On third of the year’s already passed!

Karina More The Marathon Book

I featured in a recent Beauty Finds, Karina More’s 21 day facial massage, facial exercises and postural exercise to help lift the face without botox, fillers or plastic surgery in a way to help Ukraine through skin care. This week she released via Instagram her book The Marathon*. It was meant to be a bound book however the current war in Ukraine has stopped this. She’s offering a PDF format form as little as €1 although I personally think she should have the minimum higher. She said she can’t accept money without offering something in return to help Ukraine. For now it’s purchased in PDF format via Google Drive. I was going to repurchase The Marathon as I wanted to check after a year I’m still doing the exercises correctly. With the book you not only get written explanations and QR Codes for the exercise videos, you get all the science behind how our faces age, how massage works which is also want I was looking for. I’ve downloaded it on my phone, iPad, printed it out as I don’t always want to look at a screen and for sure when it’s physically printed in traditional book format I’ll buy it again!

*As she’s the biggest Ukrainian influencer she wants to use her platform for the world to see what’s happening in Ukraine so in-between the facial exercises you may see posts of shelling etc.

Welcome to another Weekend Friday Favourites of things that have caught my eye or made me smile this week!

How’s your weekend going? I hope it’s a good one!

Ducks and Geese

The signs say no feeding the birds. Loads of people ignore them 🙋‍♀️. I go a few times a week and I’m sure they’re getting to know me. They know I have the good bread! At the moment the boating lake’s drained for maintenance, the ducks and geese are in the smaller fountain pond which isn’t big enough for them. I don’t like so much feeding them there as it attracts too much attention, there’s not enough space for everyone (people) and it be honest I don’t like the vibe there. However I feel bad if I don’t feed them like they know she hasn’t been! I always try to throw more at the underdogs. Recently there’s been one goose that will come up beside me for pan. I haven’t got the courage to hand feed them like some as their beaks look like serrated razors. I’m not sure if it’s the same one, but other geese will chase it away so you know I’m feeding that one more. A few ducks too, if all the ducks are at the boating lake want snacks will get out the water if not too many people are around for pan.

Beach Clean Up Payment: Shells

Since September last year I’ve been participating in beach clean ups. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, but never knew how to get involved*. A local group, Project Save World put up a poster for World Clean Up Day and I’ve been going ever since once a week for an hour. It’s amazing what you find: wet wipes, zip ties, drink cans, clothes, fishing equipment, cigarette butts, sweet/candy wrappers, toys, an X-ray, my least favourite polystyrene that breaks into cry-able impossible to pick up little balls that fly away into the wind, the list goes one. If there’s been storm in a week it can take forever to collect as much as possible. I fill at least one 30L rubbish/trash bag in an hour.

Weekend Friday Favourites

Fitness

I’m currently on a 48 hour exercise ban thanks to an osteopath. It’s lifted this evening which can’t come quick enough with restrictions over the next few days. I understand why it’s in place but it gives me cabin fever. It was 2 weeks, I managed to get it down to a week with limitations and depending on how I feel and how yoga goes, those ‘limitations’ may expand. I’ve been able cycle which I only got away with as it’s my transport. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Anyways I hope you’re having a great weekend.

August Beauty Finds: Beach Essentials

Beauty and Skin Care, Fitness, Inspiration

As Summer’s transitioning into Autumn, this was probably more appropriate last month. However there a still good few beach days left and sun protection is an all round year thing, not just for the summer!Beach Skin Care Essentials

As with all my skincare and make up products, I have just 2 requirements. No animal testing and as natural, crap free as possible (no SLS, parabens, etc). With make up the last 1 can be tricky, so I opt for what I can. My skin’s oily/combination, hair oily roots, dry ends and my skin loves thick body lotions. Playa Barceloneta

Coola Organic Classic Suncream, Face SPF 30, Cucumber MoisturizerCoola Classic Sunscreen Face Cucumber

For someone who doesn’t like cucumber, this accident buy last year I ended up loving. I use to use the unscented version until one day it was out of stock, I was running out and thought, just try it. I’m glad I did as I prefer it to the original. I still get the odd spot and nasty cyst spot, but it hasn’t made me break out. I hardly get any freckles and touch wood, I’ve never been sunburnt on my face using this! I’m not confident to go sans foundation and wear a BB cream or CC cream with SPF 25 in addition. I’ve tried a few foundations since wearing this and again no freckles or sunburn!

I can get from a few European sites, but like most of my skin care, I get it from iherb as it works out cheaper and faster (if it gets through customs)!

Boots Soltan Dry Touch Suncare Lotion SPF 50

Boots Soltan Dry Touch Suncare Lotion

If money was no issue, I’d slap on Coola’s body sunscreens like there’s not tomorrow. You hardly notice you’re wearing them. Unfortunately of the amount I get through, it’s just not economic, so I have to go with what I can get. This one is the next best thing to Coola. Not tested on animals, not organic like Coola, it doesn’t feel like you’re wrapped in cling film wearing it. It’s scent is barely there and it’s always on offer 1/2 price! It’s okay for running but it can run rivers a bit. Sand resistant, ha! I’ve been burnt twice this year on my shoulders, but that was due to my rucksack on and off and not reapplying. I haven’t been burnt (touch wood) yet using this otherwise!

Tone It Up Beach Babe Lip BalmsTone it Up Beach Babe Lip Balms

I really hope these aren’t in their sale to be discontinued. I flirt with other SPF lip balms and always come back to these. Yummy flavours you could eat, they don’t have that usual tacky SPF lip balm feel. Despite their size, they last for ages!

Sephora, 3 in 1 Perfecting Base CoatSephora, 3 in 1 Perfecting Base Coat

Essential if you paint your nails to protect them from polish and sunscreen! This one is makes the colour last a little longer.

Coconut OilCoconut Oil

I apply this overnight to wet hair to help condition and put back moisture in the ends from the sea, sweat and suncream. It’s also a great moisturiser and eye makeup remover. But then, I love just about anything coconut!

Tangle Teezer Compact StylerTangle Teezer

Expensive, €16 from Sephora, but it’s been a beach staple. Unlike most brushes, it’s designed for use on wet and dry hair (always use a wide tooth comb on wet hair!) as well as getting through all the tangles. If I’ve had a dip, I run this through my hair, so it’s a bit more presentable when it dries! It also painlessly tackles bad tangles from the wind!

Hair Bands/TiesHair Ties

Always an essential! I like these as they don’t snag. I do find they don’t last as long as regular hairbands/ties, but I like the no snag! I usually get them where I can find them, Tiger, H&M Divided, Fabletics.

Beach Cap and SarongBaseball cap and sarong

I’ve only just started wear a hat to the beach (to the beach, not on it. I like sun kissed hair!) A baseball cap, helps keep my hair looking  more presentable from cycling, that beach wave thanks to cycling and the sun out my eyes so I squint/frown less! I do have a straw Fedora but the speed I cycle at, it’ll be gone with the wind in no time! It’s also great at the beach for keeping sun out my eyes when I do wear it on the beach and I get less headaches. I usually drap my t-shirt/tap/top over my face to keep out the sun and sleep. I’m not the only one who does this!

SarongTurtle Sarong

Better than a beach towel! Light weight, folds up small and dries quickly!

Other Essentials, no photo!

Manuka Honey

Sunburn happens to the best of us. Manuka honey with UMF 10-20/MGO 400+ from experience are great for sunburns, thanks to it’s healing properties. I usually apply it straight on the sunburn and leave it on over night.

Sunglasses

Essential! Last year I started wear polarized sunglasses and once you’ve tried polarized sunglasses, you never go back to regular sunglasses! My current pair, purple Oakley Frogskins I love (purchased in the summer sales as I couldn’t justify full price). No glare and the sea’s always 2 toned!
