May 2022 Part 1. Late Spring Glow

I took a little break this month to redesign the site. In hindsight I should have done it before it got hotter as just trying to change font size can take forever. Looking up code to copy and paste as I have no idea how to write it or trying out different plugins. When the outside wasn’t calling as much it would have been easier to work on it. I’m thinking of taking a basic free code course just so I know what to look for when looking for code to copy, as it would be better to have a little understanding of how css language works.

Gibbon Barcelona Zoo. How I feel most days. Just waiting

May would have been the perfect month to do it or the first half at least, however I spent too much time deciding on which hosting site to be with, how everything works. In the end I upgraded to WordPress Pro. I was unsure of migrating everything and sometimes it’s better to stick with what you know. I can learn what I can and when I know what I’m doing can choose elsewhere. The second half of May was so warm this year! It’s always around the 18th May usually a week or so after my birthday the temps go up. This year they were more like late June temps and stuck around. I don’t mind one little bit apart from super humid days where the promise of rain is just a few drops.

May was the month I paid a ridiculous amount for shower curtain. My previous 100% cotton shower curtain didn’t survive it’s last wash after about 1.3 years of having it. I couldn’t find another 100% cotton shower curtain so I paid €49.90, yes €50 for a linen shower curtain I’ve already bleached for mould built up. I’ve worked out to reduce bathroom mould in the summer after showering, leave a floor or standing fan blasting the curtain and shower/bath unit until dry. I paid €50 so you don’t have too. One of my ‘friends’ at Barcelona Zoo is back! I remember having little conversations with one of the Amazonian Parrots. The festive used to come up, say Hola and sit with me while I spoke random stuff to it. I think in 2019 they disappeared. The info sign too. I asked via email what happened and got told they’d sadly died. I think it was part of a customs haul in the 80’s. Earlier this year as usual saying hi to parrots as I always do, one came running up to say hi. They don’t talk whenever I go, instead they stop what they’re doing and come to the front of it’s cage. Yes cage, I know. I swear it’s the same parrot. It has the same claw missing and looks the same albeit a little more haggard. Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t regardless I have a new friend.

February 2022. The Long Short Month. The Second Half

Animal Kingdom, Inspiration, Lifestyle, Nature, Photography, Travel

The second half of February I used my mobile camera more than my camera. I’m not sure why. Maybe my camera was buried in my bag, maybe I didn’t want to seem like tourist.

Sunrise seagull commute

Maybe I didn’t think the shot was worth my camera. I do that a lot only to later regret why I didn’t take it with my camera. My phone is just easier. Sometimes I can’t be bothered to get out my camera. Behind every photo however is a story. Be it basic as a reminder to go somewhere, a reference for later out shopping, evidence, the light, the scenery you wanted to capture forever. Even though most of the second half of February’s photos are from my mobile which in my eyes I can tell straight away they’re not as good, they have tales to tell.

I have a thing for birds as they make me laugh and are free to do, come and go as they please

There are parts of Barcelona even now and then I re explore only to be reminded why I don’t go there very often. Maremàgnum Centro Comercial is one of them. A mall in Port Vell, that’s always had a weird vibe to it. Sadly this time when I went about 1/3 of the shops had closed down. I have always though liked walking around wharf side. One of my favourite views of Barcelona is the row of buildings along Passeig de Colom looking from the port.

Some of the buildings along Passeig de Colom. The one with the 2 towers is the most fanciest post office in all the lands! Correos Via Laietana. The inside has frescos and a huge glass dome roof!

Every year the boating lake in Parc de la Ciutadella gets drained for maintenance. Last year someone released goldfish in the lake. You could see them flashing orange feeding the ducks. The seagulls as the boating lake drained, were going crazy fighting mid air for fish. I think more goldfish died out of shock being dropped multiple times than being eaten. Some the gulls, black headed gulls I think were amazing divers. They jumped a little in the air to dive head first into the water only for the larger gulls to steal the fish.

Weekend Friday Favourites

Happy Friday! Spring’s finally here!

Winter returned earlier this week which was weird as the light didn’t match the temperature. Yesterday it was around 21C when Monday it was around 10C. I hoping I can finally put away my winter coat for a few seasons. It’s nice to be in lighter weight colours and layers.

Little Dinosaur

Last week was a slow week for favourites hence no Weekend Friday Favourites. This week I have enough to share things that have made me smile or caught my eye recently!

More Goslings!

This week I saw 2 more geese families! A family of 3 goslings and a family of 2 goslings! That makes a total of 7 baby geese in the park as I’ve seen another family recently with 1 chick. Sadly the family of 5 chicks lost 4. I swear nearly everyone that sees them cries out in awe!

Jasmine

Almost over night some of the many Jasmine bushes in the parks and along the beaches flowered! Jasmine is one of my favourite flower scents along with lilac. I smelt them before I saw them as the flowers seem smaller this this year. The scent is heavenly!

Karina More Facial Cupping Challenge

I recently reviewed Karina More’s Face Building Marathon that I’ve been doing for over a year and shared her newly released book to accompany the course. In May she’s releasing her 2nd course on facial cupping. For now the course is whatever price you wish to pay. From May onwards it’ll be a fixed price to be confirmed. Facial cupping can help amongst many things, reduce edema and body fat, detox, improve blood circulation, revive capillaries and recover collagen fibres. To be honest she had me at boosting collagen so I’m all signed up and have my cups ready.

Project Light: Spring’s Finally Here! Baby Geese and Spring Storms 2022

Animal Kingdom, Nature, Photography

Happy Spring!

Nothing says spring more than baby chicks, flowers, rain and waves, no?!

These cuties stop foot traffic! Everybody seems to stop and cry out awe when they see the baby goslings in Parc de la Ciutadella!

Sadly one of them the last time I saw them hasn’t made it. Down from 5 to 4. The adults are always checking in on them where they are, swim with one in front and one behind with the chicks in-between. One adult has an injured wing which I thought happened when I saw they were down to 4 chicks. However editing I noticed that already one has feathers missing on its wing. They’re so cute as they follow along copying Mama goose. Without their wings fully grown, little dinosaurs are still here!

Waaaay to cute!

Project Light: Cute Parakeets

Animal Kingdom, Lifestyle, Nature, Photography, Travel

Most of these were taken on the same day in mid January 2022. I think I missed the zoo and didn’t want to go back until it got dark. The light was good, the ducks and parakeets were on the snack hunt and it was warm in the sunshine huddled in layers. Christmas lights while not on were still up looking like spider webs. The light was great for for seeing architecture detail too!

Don’t let the sunny light deceive you, it was cold!

While the geese rule the park, everybody as in the water fowl gets out the way for the white ducks. They’re not afraid to go after any duck, seagull or goose that annoys them.

Everybody gets out the way for the white ducks!
PAAAN!

Black headed gulls winter in Barcelona and can be found in Parc de la Ciutadella. As they can take off almost like helicopters they compete for the pan or bread quicker than the ducks. You can see the ducks and geese flinch when they dive around them to get the pan/bread, but will happily if lunge and nip at them if they can. Otherwise they just swim off leaving the humans to feed the seagulls. Black headed gulls are also amazing at catching bread in mid air! I think it’s mostly teenage guys that winter here.
