Welcome back to another Weekend Friday Favourites, where I share what’s caught my eye or made me smile this week! There’s lots to share, so keep on reading to find out!
How to Help Ukraine Animal Shelters
The current situation in Ukraine isn’t anything to smile about. Videos of Ukrainans asking stranded Russian tanks if they want a tow back to Russia, farmers towing away tanks with tractors yes, almost everything else no.
Many animal shelters are still operating the best they can in Ukraine, however food is running out for the animals. Thanks to Instagram and shared stories I came across Plant Based Treaty which listed the main Ukrainan shelters to donate to:
Shelter Ugolyok rescue and rehabilitates not only cats and dogs, ‘livestock’ too. She did share in one post if people didn’t mind some money donated went to a local orphanage for food. Nobody would mind! Happy Paws work as an umbrella foundation for many shelters throughout Ukraine and are directing funds to the shelters. Uanimals is an animal’s rights organisation again helping shelters and zoos (they’re not for ‘contact zoos’ as per one Instagram post however in war saving animal lives comes first so are helping zoos at the moment). Sirius Shelter is the largest shelter in Ukraine with about 3165 dogs and 218 cats to feed. I found Shelter Ugolyok the easier to donate to via linktr.ee/Ugolyok as it was at the time the only page in English. At the time of posting most now have Linktr in English for easier donations.
I’m not a bird photographer! I can’t post zoo photos as the zoo owns the image so to speak (that’s if you make money from the photos). Birds however are free and I can take photos of birds! Magpies have a mischievous nothing to see air about them that always makes me laugh.
This channel’s taking me all over the globe visiting traditional arts and crafts recently. From Vietnam to Indonesia to South America to North Africa from printing to weaving to pottery to soap making to incense to perfume. Three recent videos that have stuck with me:
Why is rattan so expensive. I never knew that wicker is a type of weaving not the material.
I hope you’re having a great weekend so far! Mine may seem quite as it’s a mostly at home weekend, but there’s so much on my to do list which I’m happy to work through. I’m sure I’ll only get a few things done and everything else like usual gets rolled over to next week, month, year. Anyway, my favourite post of the week to write, Weekend Friday Favourites! Things that have made me smile or caught my eye this week. Well, recently as I away travelling so missed few WFFs.

Previously Barcelona Zoo lockers were a non refundable €4. Now they’re free! You enter a code of your choice and can use the locker as many times as you want during 1 visit. This means I can go before or after the gym without lugging around a heavy gym bag around the zoo!
I’ve been after a smarter or chicer looking rucksack for when I’m running around the centre. Sometimes I feel a bit scruffy with my gym rucksack. During Fabletics Black Friday week sales something said checkout their backpack I’ve had my eye on. Each day what was on sale changed and that particular day was the backpack for about half price! I’d never have paid full price for it and if I’d had waited until Black Friday I’d only have had red to choose from. Even though it’s smaller in size than my gym rucksack (Patagonia 26L) I can fit Continue reading “Weekend Friday Favourites”→
I hope you’re having a great weekend! I’m actually travelling for the next few weeks! As much as I can I’ll try to post when I can. In the meantime, this week’s Weekend Friday Favourites, things that have made me smile or caught my eye.
Storm Gloria, Sea Claiming Back
Beach access paths buried!
Earlier this week saw perhaps the worst or biggest depending on how you look at it storm, Storm Gloria along this part of Spain and France in a long time. It was so bad I didn’t cycle! Usually I’ll venture out as storm’s here aren’t too bad. This one had about 60-70 kph winds with one part of Spain recording 115 kph, that whipped around the apartment accompanied with non stop rain. No way was I cycling. When Gloria had mostly past, outside was great running weather with the sea smelling alive. She took back the beaches. Sadly Gloria also took some human and non human lives. It was sad seeing trees that couldn’t brace the winds from being in the wrong part of town as the wind whipped down the blocks and open spaces creating funnels. Cleaning up is going to take a few weeks with Valencia’s rice industry taking a huge hit as seawater flooded the rice fields.
Welcome to the first Weekend Friday Favourites of 2020! I hope you’re having a great weekend! I’m only just feeling I’m getting back into some sort of out of whack routine. Monday 6th was an holiday so people are still in the holidays mode. Wednesday was the first climbing class of the year andI really thought it was Monday! My routine’s always always all over the place but I’m hoping some sort of balance comes to the chaos.
In the meantime this week’s, Weekend Friday Favourites! Things that have made me smile or caught my eye. Always my favourite post to write!
Switching Off My Phone
Or hiding it as the screen’s cracked (not my fault. Somebody knocked it out my hand sending it flying down the pavement). If I turn it back on, each time it goes a little loco. It’s so liberating. I grew up before mobiles. I got my first one around 17/18. All it did was receive messages and make calls. No games. The screen was like a calculator bar! Yes, I’m old. So I know what it’s like to not have a phone. I’ll admit my phone is addictive. I felt and feel guilty I was on it in the evenings when I should have been spending more attention Continue reading “Weekend Friday Favourites”→
I can’t believe we’re in the last month of 2019! I know you’ve probably heard that a 100 times already, apologies. I can’t believe in just over a month is a new calendar year and a new decade at that. Next year is a big number year for me and I’m ignoring that number! But I’m not ignoring this week’s Weekend Friday Favourites, things that have made me smile or caught my eye this week. It’s a short one however please share in the comments below things that have been making you smile or caught your eye this week.
November’s waning Frost Moon at Dawn
Once a year I’m knocked out for 24hrs with a bug of some sort. Once a year my body’s nope, shut down mode and I’m out of it. I thought I got away with it this year as my last KO was February last year. I don’t know what happened. Continue reading “Weekend Friday Favourites”→
