I can’t believe Mr AJ’s 14 today. Handsome from the day he fitted in the palm of my hands and he knows it. Everyday he likes to be told how good looking, gorgeous and handsome he is. Happy Birthday Batman!
I hope the weekend’s going great for you! Yesterday was a one off Festivo only for Catalunya, making it a puente or long weekend. Not that I have much planned. I’m hoping to make more progress with my KonMari Method tidying/sorting out. I’ve been maintaining the areas already sorted, but I haven’t done any further tidying recently. Areas still to be done are silently nagging me. Well, that’s the plan!
Weekend Friday Favourites, things that have caught my eye this week or have made me smile.
After missing the zoo closing by seconds all last week, I made it twice this week! And I had it virtually to myself. When it’s like that it feels like I have a huge tropical garden just for me.Elusive porcupine Spring’s coming!
I won’t lie, I get caught up in the Tone It Hype. Sometimes it’s too much, but it’s feel good hype, so that’s my excuse. They released earlier this month mesh Limitless Leggings. I’m in need of some new workout leggings so I added them to the basket and these capris. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t expecting much, but the reviews of the carpris were good, so I’d thought I’d take the chance. They past the essential squat test, didn’t budge workout and I forgot I had them on! Bottom line, I like them!
Monkey Press/Push Up/ Tipping Frog Shape Magazine Oct 2014.1/2 press up, 1/2 plyometric, these I felt in my shoulders. I can’t believe I’ve never done these before and I’ll be featuring them more in workouts. It works just about everything! (video here)

Tissue needed for this one! The moment a shy shelter dog in a high kill shelter in California realises he’s been adopted. Adopt don’t buy!
Paris’s futuristic housing projects build in the 60’s. To me they’re challenging Star Wars (or Star Wars challenging them).
19 reasons to visit Madeira. However there’s one problem. No beach.
What’s been making you smile this week? Have a great weekend!
Firstly, Happy New Lunar Year!
Secondly, I’m still in shock surprise after walking into my gym Monday. The long overdue facelift’s begun! First up is the floors, so all the equipment’s been moved to one side of the gym. I had a lovely big space to play in for 2 days before the work started. To keep the dust and disturbance as minimal as possible the work areas are being walled off which doesn’t leave much jumping space so I’m having to get creative adapting workouts!
The past few days I’ve also been tweaking my schedule. After last weekend of just wanting to read, watch tv and staring into space which should have been recharging was the opposite. Monday morning I was playing catch up of jobs I should have done at the weekend. It wasn’t even relaxing, reading, staring into space, watching TV at the time. The whole time there was this nagging feeling of get up off your lazy bones and be productive! There’s nothing I hate worse than that nagging feeling of get up and do something and you just sit there in a couch potato state!
I’m hoping the tweaks will give me more time to blog more regularly, get up earlier and bed a little earlier. At present the getting up a little earlier’s working. Always with me, same old, same old. Always saying schedule needs an overhaul. Little tweaks I’m hoping will help me see what works and doesn’t, but seriously it needs a big shock to clear the system and start again!
Anyways, weekend recap on a Thursday? Why not and throw in what else I’ve up to while I’ve been trying to de lazy my lazy bones.
Remember when you were a kid standing there while you’re mum/dad zipped your coat up? That’s how I felt Friday. Cycling into the centre after my physio appointment my coat zip started to unzip from the bottom. It happened before a few weeks ago and I was able to fix it. This time, I couldn’t. I made it worse. I thought if I unzip it all the way to the top it’ll slide off. Nope! Jammed. I couldn’t think of a tailor in the centre that could help. Out of desperation I headed to the only haberdashery shop I know of in the centre.
That’s how I came to be standing like a kid as you got your coat zipped up. Thankfully they could help me. It took 2 people to shimmy off the slider before one of them whisked it away to replace it. I probably said thank you way too many times, as I was concerned how I was going to take the coat off without damaging it. The coat done up completely’s chin height. No way can I squeeze my head through it! I had visions of the weekend sans a coat. Total cost €4.50 to replace the slider! I mentioned that I didn’t know where else to go as I couldn’t think of a tailor close by. I think they said in the centre there aren’t any and they wouldn’t have been able to help me anyway as they deal with fabric only, not replacing sliders. Gamble paid off!
Sunday, I felt like I cheated on my usual long Sunday runs. I opted for 10km and monkey bars. I thought I could make the zoo, but missed the gates by seconds. I got back earlier, but again lost in an internet rabbit hole and night nap (aka, crash for 3 hours plus). I did finish one book, so that was productive! Seriously I don’t know where time goes. Part of the schedule tweaks are to be more productive. It seems like everything around you wants you attention. Everything is competing to be brighter, catch your eye, an head line that intrigues you and before you know it, you’re like, okay, did I really need to spend 10 minutes reading about an electoral race in a country I don’t even live in? The biggest challenge is walking away from internet rabbit holes. The last few weeks I haven’t been posting or looking at Instagram much. Some days I enjoy it, other days, especially now they have adverts or sponsored posts disguised as normal posts, it’s a chore. It’s like being popular in high school. It was great before the adverts. Plus it’s a game I don’t understand. Related but not related, the people that programme, design etc obviously have knowhow or figuration of know how (maths, how things work) has been hardwired for years, so what did people with that knowhow did before say 200 years ago?!
Monday, catch up, Tuesday, help from AJ while shooting a future post and getting excited over new leggings in the post. My beloved Fabletics after a few months wear are getting sagging bum second wear with the waist bands ever creeping higher and higher. They get a lot of use, so they’ve been cost effective. The Tone It Up crops (yellow and blue waistband) have surprised me. I’ll admit I get caught up in the Tone It Up hype, with past tank tops from them, for me have been disappointing. I wasn’t expecting much from their leggings, but these ones I forgot I had on!
Barcelona has 3 types of winter. Cold and sunny, sunny and warm, windy. Cycling back last night from the centre along the beaches the wind and I had issues. Running earlier it was a tail wind coming back. Cycling into the centre I was really looking forward to that tail wind coming back despite a voice saying fat chance. I dunno wether it was because I was tired, bag weighed down with coconut water and kombucha it was so strong I ended up doing the the unthinkable. Getting off and pushing my bike for a few 100 metres. Bloody wind.
And I finished season 3 of Luther. I had a little ping of Britishness over the last shot over as it rose over the Thames. Not homesick, just a smile saying I lived there! And as a reminder I did, today the weather’s gone British. Drizzly, grey, overcast, can only tell the time by looking at your watch.
Favourite TV detective? I’m looking forward to Luther series 4 on Netflix. One thing the British excel are dark police dramas! Do you get caught up in internet rabbit holes and think did I really need to fill my mind with the crap?
I feel like the kids doing their homework at the last minute again. Another late Weekend Friday Favourites. Anyways, I hope you’re having a great weekend and for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere who don’t like the short daylight hours, the Winter Solstice’s in 2 days. Which means the days start to get longer, even if it’s by a few minutes! Those in the Southern Hemisphere, if your summers are anything like they are here, the days might be getting shorter, but summers only just begun!
Weekend Friday Favourites, things that have been making me smile with week or have caught my eye. Nearly all of them feature animals and wildlife, so why break trend! Advanced warning this week’s heavy on the animals, so without further ado…
While it’s not Artic cold here, I’ve been wearing this on my longer runs. 10-14C might not be cold walking, but running hands and ears start to feel the chill. This has been keeping my ears snug and I swear it’s added a little boast to my longer runs without overheating like in a beanie.
Another gem find from Miin. This cute powder comes in 2 shades, clear skin and clear beige that’s been keeping my oily skin at bay. I use a kabuki brush instead of the buff that comes with it and it gives almost translucent matte finish (care has to be taken not being heavy handed otherwise it clogs) that doesn’t feel like you’re wearing make up. I won’t lie, the packaging may have swayed me. Extra points for being paraben, mineral oil, talc and a whole hose of nasty product ingredient free. Conflicting reports if Tony Moly tests on animals. Most recent Google entries from Urban Outfitters Europe and Momomango.com says they don’t, but it’s mind field trying to find out if they do. If they do, it’s a pity as the powder’s fantastic.
I had presents to wrap hence up I was so early! Ha ha, it was the first morning in a while without clouds obscuring the sun.
Sea like glass with floating ships on the horizon.
A great move working shoulder mobility while strengthening posterior muscles and the core. I’ve been carrying a lot of weight in my rucksack this week and I haven’t worn a ‘proper’ rucksack non food shopping and gym journeys. Instead, I’ve been using a drawstring one which is fine for short trips, but cycling 5 miles to the city centre and back, then 3 miles walking (in miles thanks to Charity Miles App) around the centre my shoulders started talking loudly. It also help opened up a clients chest who’s just recovered from the flu. She went from hunched rounded shoulders to a big smile of relief!
A Shape Magazine Gillian Michaels find. Works core, arms, bum, legs, shoulders, everything! I really want to get in to bar calisthenics work and a little free running (I’ve got a long way to go. A long way) and this is helping me support my L Sit Balance longer (the same as the L sit curl, but holding both legs up out in front. Don’t ask me to hold in on fingers alone. Yet.).
Baby sloths learn to climb.
Sadly they lost their mama’s to road accidents or dogs, but Toucan Rescue Ranch in Costa Rica’s helping rehabilitate them to be released into the jungle. There’s no denying baby sloth are one of the cutest baby animals out there.
Based on a true story about a dog Oddball, who protected Fairy penguins from hungry and thrill kill foxes on Middle Island, Australia. It looks like a feel good comedy movie with some tears. Foxes get a bad rap, but it’s not their fault they were introduced to the island (just saying). They’re just doing what foxes do, eating penguins instead of chooks. Luckily it seems everybody wins, the penguins with their security dog personal and the foxes finding their fix elsewhere (nature’s cruel, but that’s how nature goes and you can’t fix it 100%. Okay, this is a rabbit hole, I’m not going down. It looks a good no brain needed to think movie, okay!).
Kitten vs Star Wars BB-8 Droid Toy
I have to get this for the cats for Christmas! Whom I’m kidding, it’ll be a just because. They donated to the Blue Cross on behalf of them and their UK cousins this Christmas (they even wrote a letter to their cousins! Proof below!). Maybe BB-8 will get them moving and their kitten spirit back!
Please excuse the blurriness. I’m working on shutter speed! As I get to the zoo 1/2 an hour before closing, few animals are up. The otters usually play just before sunset, but I’ve never seen one have its dinner before. It must have been tasty as they didn’t run away. The gorillas especially the young one always makes me laugh making its bed.
Whats been making you smile this week? Have a great week!
Oh Monday! I’ll be running rings around you. You just wait and see! For now with the curve balls you send, I’ll smile, deal with them. It would be nice if you could make the dealing less of a scavenger hunt.
I hope you had a great weekend! I had plans to go to see the Hunger Games part 2, but no matter how many times I booked online either on my phone or mac, system error. I could have just purchased the ticket at the ticket office, but I took at as a sign to graduate the first phase of the KonMari Method. My wardrobe!
Wardrobe 1 after transformation
I started reading last week, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying by Marie Kondo recommended by PBFingers and was itching to start sorting out ASAP. I kinda got a bit ahead of myself. The book needs to be read before starting as I stacked my jumpers the wrong way round. Now that’s been rectified, I have to admit I’ve been opening the wardrobe just to peek in and admire how calm it feels. It’s kinda exciting to be actually be able to see everything, rather than try to remember when things are. Things are now in sight, so in theory, I should be wearing them more often. I did discover a few pairs of shoes I’d completely forgot about and I seriously can’t believe how much I have already to donate. I feel a bit guilty not all of it I’ve worn and I’ve a feeling this will come up a lot sorting everything out, but her way of thinking, should transfer to when out shopping. End of this weekend I hope to graduate the 2nd stage. I already getting excited! You haven’t got much going on at the moment have you? Nope!
Wardrobe 2 before. Please excuse the blurry photo. I had the wrong camera settings and I was excited to start. My attention span however only lasts an hour!Wardrobe 2 afterwards. Laces would be better tucked in, but it feels like everything can breathe.Friday I took advantage of a few Black Friday offers. I didn’t go crazy, just purchased a few things on line. Many British High street shops are Spanish and I feel Spain only joined on this year feeling the pressure from the UK. The big discounts you hear about in the US, Spanish retailers don’t get. A discount is not to be sniffed at, however rarely do you find 50% off or more here. It’s usually 20-30% off. That didn’t stop shoppers all weekend, with the shops now open Sundays until Christmas and then after Kings Day for the sales. The best deal was Fabletics. 2 pairs of leggings for less than the price of 1 with VIP discount including shipping, I snapped up! That was too good of an offer not to participate in!
The rest of the weekend; running, workout, being a little envious of the cats sunbathing and storage box shopping. Thankfully there was 25% discount on storage boxes!
Have a a great week!
