An Instagram rabbit hole lead me to a jade eye mask. An esthetician used one on a client. I have thing for crystals. Within 5 seconds I found myself Amazon looking for crystal or jade eye masks.
Reading the comments, one reviewer said her friend had ‘borrowed’ to to see if it would help her migraines. My excuse right there to buy something I probably didn’t need. I get migraines. Usually from travelling, being cooped up inside, indoors all day, too many screens, trains, aeroplanes, outside in bad air pollution walking around a city breathing in traffic fumes. If I don’t drink enough water on those days my head feels like it’s rattling in my brain, pressure behind one or both eyes, my eyes hurt, smells make me feel nausea and all I want to do is lie down with my head in a freezer. I also get borderline headaches that could turn to migraines. I don’t get auras, they just hit.
The only way I get relief from them is one or combination of two methods. Lying down in a dark room with a t-shirt folded lengthways over my eyes. For some reason it provides the right amount of pressure to counteract the migraine pressure as well as blocking out light. Or a I take a gel ice/coolie pack wrapped in tea towel, placed over my forehead and eyes. That gives pressure and my head in a freezer feeling. If I can I do both.
I thought the jade eye mask might provide coolness like the ice pack and pressure like the folded lengthways t-shirt. It does. The jade coolness hits straight away. I’ve yet to try it cold from the fridge but the coolness works at room temperature. Its weight’s nice on my eyes and around my eyes to relieve pressure. I also take the edges of it and double it up over my eyes for extra weight. I set an alarm for about 15-20 minutes which I usually don’t hear so it’s good I do this in the evenings. I wake up maybe an hour or 4 later and the migraine or headache has either gone or it’s reduced. I prefer not to take medication for them, only when they’re bad. I’ve yet to try it when a bad one hits travelling without fresh air like aeroplanes however I’m 100% sure it would help a great deal.
The rest of the face was where’s my mask? I remembered while ordering, Amazon was also selling full face crystal masks. The prices were insane until I remembered AliExpress. A fraction of the price! Now when a migraine or headache hits, in the evenings I double up the mask. Full face masks first, then the eye mask. The coolness is sooo nice! The weight again helps relieve the pressure. I set a timer, ignore it, wake up feeling better. Again I haven’t tired both on a really bad migraine, however I’m again 100% positive both will help combat it. Jade is associated with serenity, calming the spirit, mind, skin, nervous system, helping drain the lymphatic system along with reducing facial tension as well as being a green stone which is linked to anti-aging, hence why many face rollers are made of jade. I’ve also seen crystal masks in amethyst and rose quartz. They’re not the high quality stones as per the colours, they might not even be jade, amethyst, rose quartz. All I know is that the coolness and weight works and AliExpress for both masks is cheaper than Amazon including shipping.

Another tool I use to help with migraines that won’t shift is a spider head massager. There’s something about them that provide relief for a few moments. Before the jade masks, if I remembered I’d use the spider massager then take a nap. And to drink water. When I have a migraine water is the last thing I want, but I know it’s the thing that will help! Or maybe I’m too lazy.
Have you tired any of these remedies from migraines? If you get them how you do deal with them? Please share in the comments below. The worst ones are when you’re out and can’t do much about them.
