Christmas 2015

Dinner requests are back for a week or 2!

P’s boss ended up not spending Christmas on the boat, so 1/2 the crew got time off. In P’s words why have a dog and bark yourself? Why cook when there’s a chef? Sometimes I ask can I have this for dinner and magically it appears later. I even get out of grocery shopping! I don’t mind the shopping part, it’s the putting it away. I know once I start putting it away, it doesn’t take long. If I had a choice between ironing and putting away food shopping, I’d choose ironing every time. Plus P makes salads that float. The salad leaves, spinach or kale and everything else seen like they’re been folded with air. If I were to make the same salad it sits heavy in the bowl. I even got roast potatoes Christmas Day! We keep it Christmas low key. Neither of us wanted a huge dinner, my usual request is just roast potatoes and a salad. As I don’t usually have much cooked food, even those potatoes alone sent me into a little bit of a food coma.

Christmas Eve after the gym, it was a quick run around the zoo before they closed. New residents were out, Cago Tios or sh*t logs (tio in Catalan’s log, not uncle/guy like in Spanish). Catalans have this thing on Christmas Eve where kids beat the log with a stick and out pop sweets. Leading up to Christmas supermarkets are filled with sweets which you feed the log daily from 8th December until the 23rd. Then come Christmas Eve when they beat sh*t sweets the out of it. Don’t believe me, read it here. I think this guy enjoys it.Cago Tio Barcelona Zoo

I’ve never seen any of the pelican’s in the water before. They usually sit, sleep or groom. Maybe it was Christmas Eve magic, but this guy was out swimming.Pelican Barcelona ZooFlamingo, Barcelona Zoo

Christmas Day after stockings and presents, it was off for a run with run up wall climbs/scales, run along the beaches, jumping sea rocks, me attempting to low side jump over a fence (I’m sure I provided lots of giggles) and the kids slide throwing me out on my bum. The kids when they land have kicked the sand up into bank, which is fun if you’re a kid. The slide threw me out and I landed smack just before the sand bank hitting the concrete which I though was covered in sand. My first reaction was to cry, but then I can’t cry as I’m a adult and that left laughter. I somehow landed on my tail bone and left cheek. I can run, cycle, sit, plank, lunge, I just can’t for a few days balance on my bum and squats hurt a little. Katmas Cat, aka DieselChristmas Day run

After late lunch, it was off the the movies! The cinemas are open here all year round and I’ve been wanting to see Stars Wars The Force Awakens ever since I knew it was coming out. I can’t wait until May next year to see the next one and I’m in love with BB-8! It’s great that a female’s taking the lead role and for once a British actor isn’t the baddy. Star Wars The Force Awakens, VOThe 26th is a holiday throughout most of Europe. Unlike the UK where the Boxing Day Sales start (what Brits call the 26th and the sales don’t start here until after Kings Day in January) here’s like Sunday, everywhere closed aside from tourists shops, cinemas, the zoo etc. 2 days of Sundays. Saturday I continued my KonMari decluttering, a Tone It Up workout as I couldn’t face burpees, squats or one of my workouts after the slide incident. To get out the house, we went for a bike ride to the W hotel and the plan, vegan pizza (aka no cheese). The pizza place was shut, so we walked to the chip shop in Barceloneta. I could just manage the small portion!Las Fritas Barceloneta

Sunday, I wrapped up warm for a run. Winters here are kinda mild, but there are days even when there’s not a cloud in the sky and sunny, it gets cold cold. I don’t usually run in long length leggings but I was grateful I wore them Sunday along with a fleecy headband. The wind had a bite. I stopped half way to play on the monkey bars and redeemed myself from the attempted side jumps with muscles ups. I still can only pull myself up the the bar chin height. The ones higher than me, forget it! Thanks to the slide incident coming back was a walk/run. It has to get better by New Years Eve as I’m running the Cursa de Nassos, a 10km night run!Sunday Run

Don’t tell me if you’re alone in a lift with a mirror you don’t pull faces. Or maybe I’m practicing face yoga. Lift selfie

Anyways, the shops are now open. 5 days without looking being able to go modern day hunting is a long time. I don’t have to buy anything, somedays I just like to look and I can go a few days without visiting the shops, but 5!

If you celebrate Christmas I hope you had a great Christmas! Have a great week!

It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like…

I found out the real reason for free wifi in my gyms fitness, weight room…Spotify! The number of members that use for that erm, 1 guy yesterday on the leg press spent more time typing and laughing then he did working his legs. In the time he was messaging I managed to finish the last round of my circuit (5-6 minutes). I think he lifted just twice.

A few weeks ago coming back from the vets, the pet taxi (yep, we travel to the vets in style! Seriously though it’s a lifesaver having 2 pet taxi companies operating in the city. I’ve taken cats on the bus and Metro before, but for everyone a car’s better) cut across the posh end of Passieg de Gracia and down Calle Valancia. I call it the posh end as it’s where all the designer shops are located. Being the posh end, the Christmas lights are just that little bit more than others, with a shameless blog post in them!

If you celebrate Christmas, Happy Christmas! If not, enjoy the lights. My usual thing is if it’s run day, then a run. If it’s a gym day, well my gym’s open all year round, so you know where I’ll be for a while, with some yoga in there too!

Happy Christmas!

Hello November!

I feel somewhat sorry for Mr D. Aj spent overnight at the vets for his biopsy and Diesel’s been home alone. We’ve never spent a night of just him and I.Mr D getting his vitamin D!I can tell he´s wondering what’s up as I’ve had a subdued little lamb, who’s taken dinner demands down a notch. He’s so used to having his brother around and even though for the most part they tolerate each other, I can tell he misses him. When he’s brothers back today, he’ll be even more confused, but will probably stay close by to him. I know he’s a social cat, I just never knew how much!

If I’ve been MIA recently blame it on my mac. It’s been playing up for a while, battery draining in 1 hour loading photos, doesn’t like doing 2 things at once, fickle with the internet. When P was here, he got it working faster which was great until I uploaded photos, then back to square 1. There was no guarantee adding extra ram bits and a new power lead would work. Then there was having to take in to add the ram if not prepared to do it yourself and they take their sweet time to repair things here. Long story short, I got a new mac! I can’t believe how much faster and smoother it is! The only minor issue, it’s a Spanish keyboard with all the punctuation keys in different places. I kept wondering why the apostrophe didn’t look right even with the language set to British English. Every time I struck it, spell check kicked in, it looked right, but didn’t. It took me a while to think to check out the keyboard properly. There it was, up with the numbers next to 0. Yay, but so awkward to type. Solution, set keyboard to British English and flitter between the 2 keyboards for all the punctuation keys.

Anyways, a quick recap of being MIA. Very exciting, weekends are back to groundhog, though Spectre’s out here next weekend and who doesn’t like a 007 movie?!

Shorter days still catching me out. Walk along la carretera de las Aguas, Parc Collerola with P Thursday. It’s popular even in darkness at 7pm with runners and cyclists. Carretera de las AguasCarretera de las Aguas

Back to working at pace running Friday. It’s a bit more difficult on the sand. Concrete is saved for longer runs! I stopped 1/2 way to explore the sea rocks and was surprised how clear the water was. I usually stop here and listen to the water lap the rocks. If I could have an outdoor office, sunny days here would be perfect!Crystal clear sea waterFriday run view

Zoo Friday afternoon. Shorter days catching me out! Last entry is at 5pm with grounds closing at 5.30pm. It’s more difficult to get there in time, but I have longer shopping time afterwards! Christmas never started arriving in the shops until the 2nd week of December when I moved here 10 years ago. This year, everything started arriving last week, toys, Christmas treats in the supermarkets, gift, secret Santa ideas and early sales in the shops. Zara Home’s filled with Christmas decorations, which is fatal. Zara Home’s always fatal with me anyway. Trips Friday and Saturday, opps. One thing I miss about British Christmases is just being about to browse all the decorations and gift ideas. I don’t have to purchases anything, just being around it all makes me happy! This year, it looks like I’ll be able to!Lemur, Barcelona Zoo

Sunday, 16km up the coast. If possible I’d like to get the Spartan Race Trifecta next year: The Beast 21km+, Super 13km and Sprint 5km all plus obstacles. This year the Beast was more than 21km! I’m working up to 1/2 marathon distance, though if I were to run the Beast, it’ll take way longer than a 1/2 marathon time thanks to the 35+ obstacles and if I run here, mountains trails. I find long runs generally a bit boring which is why the Beast appeals to me. 16km went by kinda quick thanks to a head wind going and tail coming back (can’t say the same for pace!). My kind of windy run!Sunday 16km runSunday 16km run

Zoo again, as I wanted peace and quiet. Friday’s they have an after school kids club with most exploring the grounds with their parents afterwards. I usually go later, but as it’s closing earlier and it was a Friday, it was filled with excited kids. Sunday I though as it’s so windy and the shops open even though it’s holiday (normally shops are closed Sundays, but as Christmas is coming and 2 week day holidays coming up they’re were open) it would be empty.
