I can’t believe I haven’t shared before seeing wild flamingos from a few years ago! Real life flamingos not zoo flamingos.
This flock lives on an old Roman salt mine now a lagoon, Las Salines de Calpe a Nature Park and Reserve in Calpe, Alicante, Spain. I was surprised that weren’t as pink as I’d thought they be and by how much larger and taller they were than the ones at Barcelona Zoo. Their necks appear longer than the American and Chilean flamingos at the zoo. Sometimes I feel sad for the ones at the zoo. Their flight feathers are removed and when they try to get air I feel bad for them. It’s always different to see them free. I have spilt views on zoos here.
Please excuse the quality of the photos. They were taken a few years ago before I understood more depth of field, light etc.
Only handful were pink. Maybe they knew the best brine shrimp, algae and larvae spots!
The first day of our holidays, second if including travel we stayed local exploring Calpe. The morning started like most the rest of the week, lazy. The place was so quiet and sunny, I wanted to soak it up as much as possible. So after breaky, a Studio Tone It Up workout which also featured daily, earlyish afternoon we headed to into Calpe.
The first stop was one of the beaches, where else? We enjoyed sunny skies for 20mins before storm clouds rolled in. Thankfully it didn’t rain and the water was so warm rain clouds didn’t matter. Neither did the slight air temp drop Continue reading “Summer Holiday Vacay 2018. Calpe”→
I can’t believe it’s been nearly 4 weeks since P, the cats and I took a week’s trip to the Costa Blanca. While P travels for work and has time off for exploring places*, I haven’t had a holiday in a few years as the cats are on so much medicine I can only go if they go. It’s easier than getting someone to look after them.
We booked last minute. When I say last minute, 2 weeks before so not really last minute but in terms of trying to find someplace nice to stay, last minute. Everywhere seemed booked up already. Initially I wanted to stay in Valencia, Valencia’s regional capital however we couldn’t find anywhere nice or safe for the cats. I’m happier leaving the cats in an hotel or an tourist apartment complex than say Air bnb Continue reading “Summer Holiday Vacay 2018. Travel Day”→
