Beauty Finds: Honest Beauty Cream Foundation Review

Welcome back to another Beauty Finds! This edition features Honest Beauty Cream Foundation.

Skip a paragraph for the review: I have a few requirements when it comes to beauty products: cruelty free, natural, clean, vegan better. I do my best to avoid nasty ingredients such as SLSs, parabens, PEGs, silicones, etc. Petrochemicals are the sneakiest with so many derivatives and aliases. I also avoid palm oil and it’s derivatives as I prefer orangutans. Coconut oil marketed as the good oil I’m also cutting down on as it can be just a damaging crop as palm oil. If I do get products containing palm or coconut oil I try to get organic or sustainably sourced. With make up it’s a little harder so I go for cruelty free brands. I prefer products with less plastic and thankfully more brands are aware consumers don’t want unnecessary plastic (or governments are telling them less plastic). My skin type’s oily sensitive, acne prone and now wrinkles. I know nothing stops those lines, but if I can delay them then….

Honest Beauty Cream Foundation

Excuse the smudges!

This was the first non silicone foundation I tired! In a nutshell I like it more as a concealer than as a foundation.

It’s not vegan, however I’m a bad vegan as I eat honey, so I generally depending on the brand and their ethics I sometimes choose products with beeswax in. Maybe I had too much sunscreen on which played a factor when I wore it, for a few weeks as foundation only, it doesn’t seem to stick if you have oily skin. This I think it due to it’s waxy texture that doesn’t match oily skin. Also I’m used to more liquid bb creams and cushion compacts which are easier to apply.

It goes on nicely with cushion compact sponge but it didn’t seem to have much lasting power on me. As not not waste the product I tried using it as an under eye and general concealer where it works better on me. It doesn’t sink into fine lines, it feels light on and lasts longer if it’s over another product. It does great at reducing the appearance of bags from not enough sleep. I do feel though if you really want cover, you really have to press hard into the compact to lift the product to apply. Aka apply it thickly otherwise it’s light coverage.

Happy ingredients!

Colour wise it took me a while finding the right shade online. Douglas España where it’s only available in Spain the swatches aren’t very good online. Thankfully at the time of purchase Honest Beauty has better swatches (Currently unavailable on Honest. They might be at the moment relaunching it like their Invisible Blurring Loose Powder, or bringing out another foundation. All I could find was this article on how to apply it and another on Pinterest. The product is still available on other retailers who stock it). I took a chance on Shell which is almost a good match for someone who’s pale but not porcelain, alabaster pale. A tiny bit dark with a pink undertone (I prefer neutral undertones), better for me in the summer however for some reason this shade works better on me as concealer. They have 8 shades ranging from pale to dark skin tones however they seem to be on the warmer side not cool.

Beauty Finds: Colourpop Pretty Fresh Hyaluronic Tinted Moisturizer Review

Welcome back to another Beauty Finds with a difference! Rather than review several products at once, from now on single product reviews starting with Colourpop Hyaluronic Tinted Moisturizer.

I have a few requirements when it comes to cosmetics and skin care: cruelty free, natural, clean, vegan better. I do my best to avoid the nasty ingredients such as SLSs, parabens, PEGs, silicones, etc. Petrochemicals are the sneakiest with so many derivatives and aliases. I also avoid palm oil and it’s derivatives as I prefer orangutans. Coconut oil marketed as the good oil I’m also cutting down on as it can be just a damaging crop as palm oil. If I do get products with these ingredients in I try to get organic or sustainably sourced. With make up it’s a little harder so I go for cruelty free brands. Colourpop Pretty Fresh Hyaluronic Tinted Moisturizer I picked up on holiday at Ulta in the USA. I knew about the brand but never looked into thinking I couldn’t get it in Spain. While there are silicones listed I like the ingredient list as compared to other BBC creams, tinted moisturisers, foundations the list is kinda minimal.

Pretty Fresh hyaluronic tinted moisturizer. A hydrating tinted moisturizer with skin-perfecting, lightweight coverage for fresh healthy looking skin.

I prefer BBC creams as they give a nice glow, provide coverage without looked caked and are light weight. Most Korean BB creams are too pale for me and western BB creams are more like tinted moisturisers which do nothing for me. Provide hardly any coverage. Colourpop’s is more like a BB cream, it covers amazingly, doesn’t settle in fine lines or wrinkles and does’t clog my skin too much. It never looks caked on yet provides lightweight medium coverage. It stays on on hot humid days and is almost waterproof after dip in the sea. With a face mask depending on how long you wear it for it doesn’t rub off too much.  It’s easy to apply with a beauty sponge (I use Tarte Babassu foundcealer multi tasking sponge from Sephora Espana). Bonus it gives you a glow while looking natural no makeup. Perfect!!!

I was concerned about the hyaluronic acid source as I’d read that it’s obtained via animals. I contacted Colourpop customer service who kindly said they’d check and get back to me. Good news, they hyaluronic acid isn’t obtained from any animal source! The coconut water I overlooked. I’m not perfect throwing out all of what I said about what I look for in products. Bad Nat.

Tarte Cosmetics International Delivery and Giving into NYX Cosmetics

A few weeks ago I found out by chance that Tarte Cosmetics now delivers direct to Spain. Not all products are eligible but most of their products are. Prices are a little less than brand equivalent in Sephora España and I was able to take advantage of their Independence Day free shipping which included free international shipping. Usually free international delivery qualifies on orders over €65. A major draw for me to them is that they are cruelty free with a few vegan products.

I was curious how they were able to cosmetics ship to Spain without getting flagged in customs. From experience and maybe the law’s changed within the last 3 years, Spain doesn’t allow the import of make up. It’s touch and go if parcels clear custom inspections and if it’s courier sent, it’s more likely to get stuck/flagged. The way they got around it was having Continue reading “Tarte Cosmetics International Delivery and Giving into NYX Cosmetics”
