Beauty Finds: Respire Apple And Pomegranate Deodorant Stick Review

Welcome back to another Beauty Finds! This edition is Respire Apple and Pomegranate Deodorant Stick.

I did for a while make my own deodorant until convenience won. I’d been using Respire Fleur d’Oranger Orange Blossom Natural deodorant which I liked. It wasn’t heavy feeling, wasn’t sticky, 99% natural and clean ingredients, but still got a little stinky the end of the day. Respire do refills, yet at the end of the day it’s still plastic. This was a little guilt trip as I started making my own to save on plastic. Sephora’s travel and mimi products stand by the cash desk did their thing when I saw Respire now do a plastic free option. Of course I had to try it! Skip a paragraph for the review or read on about my beauty product requirements. 

I have a few requirements when it comes to beauty products: cruelty free, natural, clean, vegan better. I do my best to avoid nasty ingredients such as SLSs, parabens, PEGs, silicones, etc. Petrochemicals are the sneakiest with so many derivatives and aliases. I also avoid palm oil and it’s derivatives as I prefer orangutans. Coconut oil marketed as the good oil I’m also cutting down on as it can be just a damaging crop as palm oil. If I do get products containing palm or coconut oil I try to get organic or sustainably sourced. With make up it’s a little harder so I go for cruelty free brands. I prefer products with less plastic and thankfully more brands are aware consumers don’t want unnecessary plastic (or governments are telling them less plastic). My skin type’s oily sensitive, acne prone and now wrinkles. I know nothing stops those lines, but if I can delay them then….

Respire Apple and Pomegranate Deodorant Stick

First up as mentioned it’s 100% plastic free. The tube is cardboard and the label isn’t plastic cover paper. It’s all cardboard. There isn’t a plastic seal, neither is the base of the deodorant. No packing carton, just the deodorant as it is on sale. It works by manually pushing up from the base when needed. It’s extremely long lasting too, about 4-5 months which is great value for money at 50g for €11.90 or €3 a month from Sephora España. Respire’s own site it’s the same price with discount on bundles.   

All the ingredients are vegan, 100% natural with 31% of ingredients certified organic. The deodorant magic comes from magnesium oxide and triethyl citrate. No aluminium/aluminum here. It isn’t drying, doesn’t sting after shaving or epilating. The scent is more apples than apple and pomegranate which aren’t in the ingredients per se, they come from the perfume which is 100% natural. The deodorant also available in a cotton scent version. 

Does it work? I’ve yet to test it in full on summer but I haven’t noticed being stinky much after working out, sprint cycling places wrapped up winter layers. I noticed with the liquid version I did stink more. This one is nice and gentle, non sticky. Non sticky and non cakey deodorants are something I like. The apple and pomegranate scent is subtle. It’s not an anti perspirant but I personally think the sweat needs to come out! I don’t think any deodorant is 100% stop the stink. The claim it works up to 48 hours, I think more around 24 hours. I also apply deodorant to my feet and haven’t had any stinky feet using this. TMI Nat! Perhaps more importantly, I haven’t reacted to it. 

Cons. So far I haven’t had any white marks on dark tops, but I haven’t been wearing any black tops. It hasn’t marked black bras, but I have noticed sometimes if applied thickly, there is a a white trace on the pits so there maybe be a possibility of transfer. Pits, who came up with the name for under the arms?! 

Another con, if ordering direct from Respire’s website, use Google Translate unless French is your thing. I’ve noticed with another French beauty brand I use, their site is also only in French when the products are sold throughout Europe and the UK. This I feel is a missed sales opportunity. I’m not saying every European beauty brand website has to be in English but feel more language options would be appreciated. More so as English is still the lingua franca. Sometimes you want to check about a brands own site rather than rely on the retailer’s information. Thankfully my reading French is way better than my spoken and hearing French. 

Would I recommend? Yes, for the price vs how long it lasts and that’s it’s plastic free. I can’t make a diy deodorant as good as this, so I’m repeat purchasing.
