Late November Catch Up

Happy December!

I hope your week’s going okay. Apologies for not stopping by to say hi last week. The week went in a blur. I said see you later to my friend moving back to Australia with her growing family. Her big surprise before she left! I’ll miss her. We only just met this summer, following my trend of making friends only for one of us to leave within a year. I’m happy for her, yet I know I’m going to miss her loads.

The cats have had their own personal mini dramas last week, all relating to their ongoing illnesses and I was just plain lazy. Last night for example was an inner fight of stop napping and being lazy, get up and be productive vs I can’t or I don’t want to. I ended up saying 5,4,3,2,1 to snap my brain out of it and get moving. I haven’t been taking as many photos as usual as the light goes so quickly. As I get to the zoo before closing, the light’s going and I’m not there yet with low light. Zoo rules, no flash. It’s okay, I have to think differently of what I can shoot. Throw in the dentist again and a still out of whack sleep schedule, something had to go and that was here. Again. I know if I want it, I’ll make time for it which always plays on my mind when I don’t blog. I’m writing posts in my mind, but that’s not the same as writing them Nat. My December challenge is on, sleep schedule and posts!

The cold arrived last week. Friday was a chilly 7C around lunchtime. Temps that cold midday in the city’s cold. It gets to around 0-3C in the early morning but usually heats up to 10-14C during the day. Outside the city’s even colder. The cats are all about sunbathing if it’s sunny then when the sun moves around blankets or my coat in the evening when I get back. I’m all about Uniqlo thermal or HeatTech tops. The extra warm ones. Super lightweight under jumpers, yet keep me snug against the cold. I can’t recommend them enough! The rest of Uniqlo I pass. I only went in to see what the fuss was about with no intention of buying anything as I’m working towards less fast fashion. It’s hard to find lightweight thermal tops here which was my excuse.

Anyways, I’ll leave you with some catch up photos!

An early afternoon dentist appointment a few weeks ago meant I got to the zoo early and could take advantage of the light. Still got a way to get getting it right. Even gorillas like to sit on something (please excuse the glass reflection)

Sunrises have been their usual magic

Sunsets have been coming a close second.

My local supermarket was the only supermarket in Barcelona and ones on the outskirts that let an animal rescue and foster organisation hold a food fund raising day (I got talking to one of the girls). They have more cats than dogs so I got fluffy blankets, crunch and much needed kitten food. They picked a great day as there was a huge release the ‘political prisoners’ rally in the centre. People came from all over Catalonia taking up parking along a few of the beach promenades. My local centro commercial was packed more than usual for a Saturday. img_7061.jpgI heard more Spanish than Catalan as the protestors walked back. Erm, shouldn’t it be more Catalan than Spanish for this rally?

Christmas lights are on! I always wish they could stay on until the end of January during the longest darkest month of the year.

In a week I went from running in leggings and t shirt to leggings, tank top, long sleeved top, gloves and a buff.

I’ve started taking calcium, magnesium and vitamin D3 tablets help with enamel and energy now, bones later. I’ve been taking for the past 4-5 months brewers yeast tablets and wow, my nails! I’ve never had such long strong nails, so I’m hoping the ca, mg and D3 work their magic.

Half waxing moon

Light play

How was your November? Have you done all your Christmas shopping? I’m nowhere near done and still have cards to write for everything to be posted in time. Can I be a Grinch this year and not send cards? I always mess them up. No cards equals less paper and trees saved 🙂

Thank you so much for the shout out! You amaze me with the distances you run. My furthest is a 1/2 marathon but it was an obstacle course, so I walked most of it!!! Wishing you a great 2018 of ultra marathons!

I’m a total Grinch and I don’t do Christmas (except maybe a dinner with the family) so no Christmas shopping for me (mwahaha! That’s my evil laugh).

Finally there’s Uniqlo in Spain! I kinda “trust” them more than H&M because most of their clothes are still made in China (or at least the last time I went) as opposed to Bangladesh or Cambodia, were they pay even lower salaries. Anyway, I don’t really buy clothes lately haha, apart from underwear which lasts less. But I have t-shirts and a sweater from Uniqlo that I bought 7-8 years ago and they are still in a good condition! The sweater particularly looks almost new, and I wore it a lot!

You’re lucky, Christmas cards aren’t a Spanish tradition so you’re let off the hook!

Yes Spain has Uniqlo! 2 of them….both in Barcelona opened within 2 months of each other. The rest of Spain gets online shopping. Erm, I was naughty and didn’t check the label. I’m happier if the workers get a good wage for them. I have noticed the few times I’ve been in, they have a few basic styles so maybe it’s not so fast fast fashion as HM.

I like it when clothes last a few seasons. I have few t-shirts that became at home t-shirts that are still in good condition too!

A great recap Natalie. Sometimes my blog does slide myself, and it is often other things that are a temporary priority such as your friend. It will be hard to have her so far away. I’m sure it won’t be quite the same, but I hope you’ll be able to keep connected.

The darkness is hard for me as well, with having to work inside all day. I try to get outside as much as I can on weekends.

As always I love your photographs. Great that you are still able to get to the zoo. 🙂

Thank you! I can just get to the zoo on time. Winter hours don’t help!
My friend and I hopefully will keep in contact with WhatsApp and IG, but we both have to make the effort. As for my blog I know if I want to do it I’ll make time and not just in my head. My excuse life doesn’t always let me.

I find an easy way to help beat the darkness is wearing lighter colours. It helps along with as much natural light as possible and like you being out side as much as I can. Have a great rest of the week 🙂
