Weekend Friday Favourites

I hope you’re having a great weekend! The temps have dipped the past few days leaving an air like it’s the end of summer. More so as school’s out for the next 3 months, the motorway traffic outside’s a fraction of what it usually is. The temps should be back to a nice 28C+ from tomorrow so summer can back to being hot! Seal Barcelona Zoo

Anyways, Weekend Friday Favourites, things that have made me simile or caught my eye this week.

Frozen Strawberries

Frozen strawberries make smoothies almost ice cream like as I discovered last week. I know late to the party adding frozen fruit to smoothies. Recently we’ve been able to buy 1kg strawberry cases from the organic shop and as we can’t eat them quick enough before they go bad, we’ve been freezing them. The only prob now, strawberry season’s finished and the freezer’s stock’s been used up.

Orange Juice

In the warmer months I find myself craving orange juice at the end of a hot day. For someone that doesn’t like eating oranges I love orange juice. There’s something about a tall cold glass of orange juice I look forward to everyday. Maybe it’s the energy hit, maybe it’s the coolness like a cold beer that I don’t drink or like much.

Rainbow

Wednesday saw a brief storm and rain for all of 5 minutes that took an hour to build. After the rain must come sunshine and a rainbow somewhere.

Egrets and Storm Clouds at Barcelona ZooI couldn’t get the intensity of the clouds as I wanted. This month I’m hoping to take advantage of as many free online photography courses as I can!

L’umbracle del Parc de La CiutadellaI had an early morning appointment across the city this week which P kindly motorbike chauffeured. On the way back running errands we parked opposite the umbracle in Parc de la Cuitadella which I’ve been wanting to show him for ages. I think he was as equally as impressed as me when I first found it

Wednesday’s RunThe sea was full of sea sparkles and thankfully a breeze running!

Plank Tricep Extension

As featured in Shape Magazine September 2016. I’m always guaranteed to feel my triceps the following few days after these! Start in a forearm plank position with palms pressing into the floor, slowly straighten arms into a full plank and lower to starting position. I find it more effective with alignment of shoulders and wrists in the full arms extended plank rather than the starting forearm plank when it’s more shoulders in line somewhere between elbows and wrists. Others start the other way around alignment of shoulders and elbows in alignment in elbow plank, with arms at a slight angle in full extension. They’re fun and effective!

As always I love your photos Natalie. It is strawberry season here in Canada, and there is an organic pick your own farm just a couple of kilometres away. Sometime after work this week I hope to make it there to pick some. They do perish rather quickly, which in a sense is a good sign they are not loaded with chemicals. Strawberries in smoothies are amazing! 🙂

Always admire you for your discipline with your healthy lifestyle.

Have a wonderful rest of the week! 🙂

      Thank you!

You’re so lucky to have a pick your own just down the road! I’d be there every week stocking up. Thankfully at the moment berries are cheap as they’re in season. I try to get organic if I can and the price right, but that’s not often. During the winter I have to go with what the supermarket has. I remember growing up we had a strawberry patch that for about 4-5 weeks every dinner for desert (for 5) we had a strawberry something. We used to get massive bowlfuls everyday! We also had blackberry bushes, loganberries (a raspberry cross with something), gooseberries and red currants (that I didn’t like) and even a type of grape growing wild! Plus my Dad back then grew a lot of vegetables. I think I was spoilt! Now my Mum supermarket shops!

Have a great rest of the week too 🙂

There just does not seem to be the massive gardens nowadays like there was in yesteryear Natalie. My mom made a lot of preserves, jams and jellies from the garden and huge berry patches we had.

I have a very small garden, a few tomatoes, onions and herbs like mint.(plants that rabbits do not like) We have white currants and raspberries that get eaten before they got make into jams. We have a lot of wild rabbits in my village who tend to eat plants like lettuce and spinach clean, so I have really cut back on the size of my garden. The organic farm I was mentioning is on it’s own in the countryside and wolves and coyotes will keep the rabbit #’s down there. I guess all part of the balance of nature. Those predators stay away from the built up areas like where I live and the rabbits have found my village to be a kind of refuge or sanctuary for them.

I do enjoy watching the rabbits, the trade off is a smaller garden, and I’ll just buy my produce at the organic farm. 🙂

I have cats who eat my plants instead! Diesel’s managed to get past the block I put up for the strawberry plant and is happily eating its leaves when he can. He hasn’t yet, started on the hibiscus which is coming alive this year.

Mother nature can be cruel, but she likes balance. I can see why the rabbits have stuck to built up areas. There’s a documentary I’ve watched about city coyotes and how they’re thriving in a more urban landscape. I can’t remember the names, but I’m sure it’s on YouTube.

My Mum too and I think she still does make her own jams and chuckneys. I used to love her blackberry and apple jams!

I love watch rabbits too. They seem to have it easy, well kinda. In your area at least!

Have a great rest of the week 🙂
