Natural Inexpensive DIY Eye Cream

Eye cream is the one product I’ve always had issues finding a good one. One that keeps lines at bay, hydrates, helps reduce under eye bags. That’s not too much to ask for is it?

I may have found it and I’m happy to share!OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

While I know nothing will stop those lines eventually, sleep helps under eye bag issues, lots of water helps keep the skin hydrated and diet plays a part, products that help are always a good thing. This mix has been helping the past few weeks. All you need is;OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Equal parts:

Wheat Germ Oil, €9.62, 473ml

Sweet Almond Oil €5.50, 500ml. This particular brand I got from a local bin shop which has natural skin care products. I would prefer if it wasn’t clear and instead a warm light orange colour as it then contains more of its amazing benefits. Next time, this one!

Rosehip Oil $5.69 30ml

1 small bottle. The one I use is from Muji for about €1.50.

1 small funnel. Mine is from a Sephora travel decant set.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Decant equal parts of each oil. A 12ml bottle averages about 2 funnels of each oil. Shake before use as the oils can separate. Gently tap around eyes including the eye lids. I also dab some around my lips. No one likes lines around them (which is the reason why I stopped using straws when I did drink coffee. The straws were to reduce the coffee staining teeth, however it’s the same action as smoking).OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It’s fine applied under make up, absorbs quickly and is non greasy.

Wheat germ’s great for boosting collagen. I’ve been taking it the last few months as flakes sprinkled on salad as a vegan way of boosting collagen. On a whim I got it in a oil form from iherb.com not really thinking about it’s use when it arrived. While brushing my teeth one day I noticed that my previous eye cream had wheat germ and sweet almond oil. This got me thinking, what if I was to apply it straight on, which is how I came to mix the oils. Sweet Almond oil again was another buy I saw and was curious about without actually knowing what to do with it. I tried it as an hair mask and as on it’s own eye cream previously. Rosehip oil, I’ve used as a serum previously and had a bottle spare I didn’t want to waste so I thought, lets mix them together as see what happens!

Results

I noticed almost immediately the next day an improvement. No beauty sales person recently’s recommended me an eye cream, my dark under bags aren’t so dark, lines are softer. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Benefits

Wheat germ oil is packed with antioxidants and anti ageing goodness. It’s a great source of vitamin B6, folic acid, magnesium and potassium. It can help reduce fine lines, improve skin texture and is also a great source of vitamin D, E and omega 3’s, the good stuff that helps fight those fine lines!OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Sweet Almond oil’s rich in vitamin E which can help protect skin from environmental pollution, UV radiation, help reduce dark circles (sleep also plays a huge part with this one, especially if they’re prone to being puffy/swollen), has great anti-inflammatory properties, it contains B vitamins and zinc that can help with skin rashes, again it’s packed with amino acids/protein and collagen via vitamin E to help boost it under the eyes and is super hydrating even on dry skin. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Rosehip oil’s also packed with antioxidants, vitamins, A (B carotene), C and fatty acids, collagen thanks to vitamin C. Vitamin A gives it the ability to skin deep into the skin and improve skin texture and tone (hence it’s reputation fading scars). Vitamin C stimulates collagen production, which helps like wheat germ oil, can help reduce sun damage. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Another huge bonuses are it’s cruelty free, not tested on animals and it’s also relatively inexpensive once you have the main ingredients. The 12ml bottle lasted me about 6 weeks. Plus the oils have many other uses. Sweet almond oil can be used as an hair mask, skin scrub with sugar, eye make remover, nail oil. Wheat germ oil you can add to smoothies, salads etc. It does have a strong, slightly pungent smell to it which takes some getting used to and isn’t for anyone with gluten issues. Rosehip oil can be used as a serum, hair mask, nail oil. From experience it’s better if the rosehip oil’s dark orange to benefit more from it’s amazing properties.

If you try it, let me know how it goes and make sure that you’re not allergic to any of the oils beforehand (sample check). Everybody’s skin’s different, so what works for me might not work for you.
