Favourite Portable Fitness Equipment

I’d like to share with you, my current favourite portable fitness equipment. Everything is super lightweight, fits inside a shoe sized drawstring bag and doesn’t take up much room in a gym bag.Favourite Portable Fitness Equipment

I’m one of those who goes to the gym and ignores the machines. I started taking my own equipment for the simple reason, I got fed up of waiting for my turn. My gym has a nice big play space for functional training but it doesn’t have enough functional equipment for more than 2 to use. This is about to change however, if the gym instructors weren’t telling porky pies. The end of April just in time for my birthday in May, the gym renovations will be complete with monkey bars, Ugi balls, kettlebells, battle ropes and heaver medicine balls. My eyes were dancing when they told me! The perfect birthday present! Back to the portable equipment, clients love them also!

Suspension Trainer or TRX

TRX is out of my price range, but a Woss suspension trainer isn’t (£24.99!)! The principles the same, except this at the anchor point isn’t fixed. The straps move through the cam/triangular attachment (if I’ve got all the technical words right) like a see saw which means you work your core more to stabilise. The exercises you can do with a suspension trainer are endless. Just Google anything TRX like arms, advanced shoulders, shoulders, back, combo moves etc and you’re playing for days! The TRX own website has an endless list of moves!

Suspension training utilises bodyweight exercises that develops strength, muscular endurance, balance, flexibility, core stability all at once (you can add dumbbells for a few exercises). Its additional appeal is that you don’t have to go to a gym to use one! It can be used anywhere and anybody can use one. Another reason why I like the Woss suspension trainer is that with the 3000 Eqaulizer comes with a 2.4metre Anywhere Cam Buckle Strap which is excellent at looping vertical or horizontal fixtures (tree branches or truck) and can also double up as a yoga strap!

Mini Bands

Tone It Up mini bandsmini bands

I love mini bands for working legs and booty! Again Google mini band exercises and you’ll find a whole array of moves. They usually come in a pack of 3 different strength, light, medium, heavy. They can be used anywhere, increase strength and stability in the upper and lower body, are great for lateral movement (inner and outer thighs in particular), hip and glute activation and shoulder stabilisation.

Skipping Rope Skipping Rope

A skipping rope has to be one of my all time favourite non running or cycling preferred cardio. Once you’ve mastered the basic boxer skip, let your imagination go with steps. In addition to cardio, it’s a total body strength workout. It’s great at building endurance, coordination, speed, agility, power and balance. You can take it anywhere and it can double up as yoga strap! I often go for 1 minute drills only when I stop, realised I’ve been skipping for 2-3 minutes, I like it that much. I also find it kinda calming.

Resistance BandsResistance Bands

These are fantastic for push/pull exercises. Just make sure the anchor attachment is secure! Like mini bands they come in different resistance. They’re light weight, great at working strength, balance, and coordination. They can be used in place of dumbbells and cable machines with the added bonus of allowing you to mimic real life movements (tennis, punching, golf etc). Again Google resistance bands exercises and the exercise are endless! I personally prefer to use them for push/pull and chop exercises Juan Carlos Santana style here

Everything but the resistance bands fit in the Woss carry bag! Portable fitness Equipment packing Portable fitness equipment.

So there you have it, my favourite lightweight portable fitness equipment! What’s your favourite portable fitness equipment you can’t live without?

It is when the equipment isn’t bulky! The best bit, you don’t have to wait in line 😉

I am in NYC for March break. So I leave you in the capable hands of my favourite British Señorita, proving to us that getting in shape does not have to break the bank.

This is a great list. I like Woss trainer. Looks like it would do the same job as a TRX.

🙂 It does exactly the same job as TRX at a way cheaper price. Many people have commented on reviews that it’s better than an TRX!
