Bad Coffee

Things I’ve learnt the past few days:

24 hours of sleep does wonders for the complexion. Okay, you might not get a glowing complexion, more like zero bags.

Always listen to your mother when she says be careful what you wish for. You might just get it, but not how you wanted it.

Last Friday evening I ate or drank something that didn’t agree with me. Coffee and peanut butter sandwich I had to defend off a headache. Friday, I said I wanted a weekend of just me and the cats. There was another Spartan Training session the following day, which I really wasn’t keen to attend yet felt I had to. I wanted to be ‘fresh’ so to speak for this weeks race, but at the same time I didn’t want to miss out on any tips and advice.

I got my weekend with the cats. Whatever I ate kept me up all night throwing up. I missed watching or being kept awake by a fantastic thunderstorm in the wee hours of Saturday morning. I know it was an impressive storm as it lit the bathroom up while as I worshipped the porcelain god.

Zero burpees Saturday. By 1pm I’d made it from the bed to the sofa. 3pm I had enough energy to feed the cats their breakfast. 6pm I just had it in me to clear up their piles of sick from eating plants as they tried to feed themselves breakfast. 9pm some pieces of toast and out until 2am before giving the cats their dinner and moving back to bed.

Sunday, energy nearly restored with some odd vivid at times disturbing dreams, no bags under my eyes for the first time since the last time I was out for 24 hours (March), back to eating, kinda, can’t face veggies, but no running. Chores, a bike ride to and walk around the zoo, yoga and more zzzz. Hence no Weekend Friday Favourites, no sea run view, no 3-4 x 30 burpees, just what I asked for, a weekend with the cats. But not how I envisioned.

Listen to your mother. Sometimes she can be right. Except mine didn’t say a bad cup of coffee can make you ill detox.

Everything lately has been coming back to organutans. This guy/girl was how I felt Saturday.

Organutan hide and seek

When was the last time you were ill or had zero eye bags?! Have a great week!

Isn’t it amazing that there is a day out there, somewhere, that is called 24 hours of rest? It is so mystical! 🙂 And feels so good when life demands it. have you ever found how salt water is good for one’s complexion? When I lived at the beach the ocean water would clear up almost any skin irritant from acne and cysts to poison ivy. Its where we all come from and nourishment for our body’s largest organ. Ms. Spartan, I am going to need your help. I want to sign up and do a 1/2 marathon in February and currently I have not run in almost 2 months. What say you?

I’m not sure about the sea water and my skin. It’s doing better now it’s not in the sea every day! As for training, I’m not a running coach, so can’t give running advice per se. I’d suggest, up your long runs, building up at the weekend to longer runs, adding km’s on when you’re ready. Then a shorter faster run in the week and a mid in-between distance! That would be my advice! And keep up any strength training! One person to ask is Sarah from runningonhealthy. She’s the running coach and I think she does plans. Maybe join a local running group. If your foot’s okay to run, then start training! It won’t take long to get back into it!

Natalie, I’m sorry to hear you were sick. I had a stomach bug, too, this weekend. I hear it’s going around.

    1. says:

Oh no, I hope you feel better! I think there’s a bug going around here too as a few other people were sick this week. Thank you for your wishes!

Sorry to hear you weren’t well Nat! Luckily you’re getting better. But wow, that 24 hours of sleep must’ve done wonders. I don’t remember the last time I slept for that long, I think it was when I came back from a school camp and just crashed out for a whole day haha. Anyway I hope your spartan training is going well and good luck for the upcoming race!

I’m feeling better now! 24 hours sleep was great for the bags, but not for Spartan training. I’ve lost burpee strength!
